Should we be tipping 25%?

I can't even believe some servers make like $2 an hour :sad2: I wait tables (in Canada) and I make an hourly wage of $10.35 as well as tips.

They absolutely do and that is the problem.

I'm from the UK, & I find it uncomfortable to tip in the US. I do it, because I know its the right thing over there, but sometimes I do resent it when my service has been below par. Plus. I never know how much! I just chuck a couple of dollars for a drink, 5/10 bucks for a meal.

As for min wage, its not actually that bad. If you're good at your job, you'll still make plenty tips.

When in Rome...

I started out earning $2 an hour, but over the years I worked as a waitress I did get a few raises and got up to $3.25 an hour. Weekends were the best, made the most tips then. Weeknights, especially in the dead of winter, sometimes we only had 2-3 tables all night and would go home with $15 in our pocket. Government said the boss was supposed to "make up the difference" if we didn't make minimum wage, but they never did. They said it all "evened out" when we got good tips on the weekends.

So, as a former waitress then no, I don't think tipping should go up to 25%.

We generally tip 20% for great service, occasionally a bit more.

If it was just average service then 15%, really poor 10% and downright horrible we have left nothing, or the "two pennies under the plate" to indicate that no, we didn't just forget to tip.
