I am a wimp when it comes to rides. I don't like Screamin' (Or any big roller coaster). I am terrified of the drops in ToT, but I really want to see the effects and why everyone loves it so much. I have skipped over it the last 2 (and only 2) previous trips. So for others who are like me, have you done this ride? And what did you think of it. I feel like I should do it at least once, but I'm a huge chicken!

Oh, it's hard to say! I HATE those free-fall rides - I avoid them at all costs. And I was skeeered out of my mind going on the TOT for the first time. But, the TOT removes your visual orientation for most of the ride so the movement feels much milder than open-air rides. After I rode it once, I went on it again...5x in a ROW. It's one of my favorite rides at DCA! :cool1:

My DH abhors freefall type rides, but loves ToT. The queue alone is worth going through. It's really full of magical details. I see some new detail each time I ride. What rides do you like? Are you okay with the drops in Pirates and Splash?

Does the one in DL drop just once or does it drop, then go up again and drop over and over? The first time I went on TOT in WDW, it dropped one big drop and I really liked it. The next time I went, a few years later, it kept going up and down and it was too much. I was dizzy the rest of the day .

Brianna - I would say NO, but I am a big wimp when it comes to TOT, too!

YES! It's my favorite ride out of both parks! Even if you are afraid, you have try it at least once. I "made" my 4 year old ride it for the first time yesterday, and he had fun!

Ok, I think I may have to try it once! I have always wondered, and guess I won't know until I do it. Makes me feel better to know other 'wimps' out there have liked it. And yes I can handle the drops on Splash and Pirates. Of course on Splash I have to keep my eyes closed! But I love the rest of that ride, so I endure.... (told you...Chicken). I think I've worked up enough nerve. I have 12 more days to keep convincing myself:upsidedow

Keep the moral support coming!!

With rollercoasters, you get the breathtaking down, down, down feeling, but not with TOT. The drops switch and go up/down so quickly, it's hard to tell if you're dropping or flying upward! I've been on it dozens of times and I'm literally "LMAO" during the motions.

I still get more psyched out over Splash's drop than TOT...if that helps! ;)

The visuals are incredible - it's a must see!

I agree you have to try it at least 1 time, i hate those type of rides too, but when it first came to disney i rode it 1 time and it scared me so much i grabbed a complete stranger that was sitting next to me and screamed, and im a big guy, im sure i freaked the little lady next to me that i grabbed but she just laughed. When i visited WDW around the same time when the ride had just opened, i recalled the last time at disneyland i went on it and i hesitated to do it, but then again, it is a Disney ride, so i bucked up and went on it again at WDW, i frequent the DLR but i still pass it up, but i did do it 1 time at each park, and i think that did it for me. but you should give it a go, even if it is only 1 time, just remember it is Disney.

My daughter who is a roller coaster lover, HATED it. She said she will never go on it again. One other person, (a 4 year old) hated it so much it ruined the rest of her Disney trip. She wouldn't go on anything else. So be careful of your decision. True, it is Disney and it is safe, but still..........

I love the Tower! My DH chickened out while standing in line with me last year, so I had to go on it alone. It's not too bad, you just hold on, but I still have to muster the courage for California Screamin' (which I've chickened out on).:surfweb:

I hate freefall and that feeling that you get in your stomach...but I love the TOT! I've regretted the few times that I've chickened out on it because it's truly an awesome experience in my opinion. Just experiencing the awesome effects they have on the ride is worth enduring the stomach factor :)

I love roller coasters (love Screamin') but I don't like rides that are just drops so ToT doesn't appeal to me at all. Before we went to WDW (10 years ago) I kept hearing from people who "claimed" they didn't like drops say how much they love ToT so I tried it and once was enough for me. :rotfl: I did not like it at all and I don't understand how any drop-haters could like it but was glad i at least tried it. DH who gets freaked out at roller coasters and HATES splash mountain because of the drop at the end, loved ToT. He goes on it at DCA whenever he gets a chance to, but not with me! So I still haven't tried the one at DCA. He keeps telling me I should since he doesn't think it's as scary as the one at WDW. I don't know if I'm brave enough though! :rotfl:

So I say you should try it but just beware that you might not love it like other "wimps" say they do. Have fun!

My DGF is a big chicken about most coasters, ToT, etc. She went on it last and could not stop laughing. Now it is one of her favorites. She just had to try it.

I don't like coasters or drops. I went on ToT years ago with my oldest child and said never again. I also went on Splash and said never again, and the same with Space Mt and Screamin'.

Well, my younger children grew up and I started going on some of those rides again. With my ds9, we do Splash, ToT, all of the Mt coasters numerous times per trip. I think we did Indie like 6 times on our last trip, and Space Mt. more than that. I still won't go back on Screamin' (and may never go back on that one...lol), but Tot really isn't bad when you compare it to those crazy scary rides at Six Flags.

The "drops" are over with in like 20 seconds. You can definitely handle this. The worst part is when you're in line the first time you ride it. lol. Kinda like the going to the dentist, the worst part is sitting in the waiting room.

I am a big chicken, and I mean, big chicken when it comes to scary rides. But, I love TOT! The best experience was when a group of 30 family members went to DLR together and we filled up an entire elevator. It was so much fun! And even if I go with just one other person, everyone seems to be laughing, joking and having a good time before we all start screaming! Last time I went on, we were all chanting, "Tom, Tom, Tom". He was our senior aged, and awesome CM who got us all situated.

But I won't lie, I am always really nervous before the ride but am always happy I did it afterwards.

I say try it if you want to try it.

I also say that the people who really, truly do hate any kinds of drops like that will not be riding it even to give it a try. It won't even be an issue of 'should I or should I.' It just won't enter into the picture for someone who is truly upset by those sorts of things. It's not on the radar for those of us who really, really, genuinely hate those types of rides. Being the thrill-ride hater that I am, I never came off of Space Mountain or any of the Mountain rides when I was younger saying, "Wow! I loved that!" I just don't like them at all. I hate those things. I hated Indy, too, and I tried it. And then I realized that I no longer wanted to try things that I knew I would hate because there was no point! ToT is not on my radar! It's like with the folks who can't ride the Teacups because they know they will get sick - the Teacups are not even a thought in their mind for their DLR trip.

One friend of mine won't even go on POTC because she hates drops, so when she visits DLR she isn't even thinking POTC (let alone about ToT). It's just not on the radar.

Another friend of mine who is merely okay with some thrill rides every so often - but doesn't love them immensely - went on ToT and came off of it saying it was "mortifying." She will never go on it again.

Another group of friends and I went to DLR a couple of times last year. One male in the group is a thrill ride lover, so he and another person went off to ride ToT. His wife stayed off with me, waiting for her husband to come off of it and tell her if she could handle ToT or not. When he came off of it, HE absolutely loved it and raved about how great it was, but he told my friend (his wife), "Um...yeah...you would not like it at all. Better you stay off of it.":rotfl2:

Disney Dreams from the DIS also has a story about an unsettling ToT ride. Not fun.

But...all that said, I think because you are even asking the question in the first place, Brianna, you must want to ride ToT! So since you want to, do it! Have fun!! Hang on tight, scream your head off and have a blast!!

I hate freefalling rides.. I hate them beyond all repair, I went with my niece because she wanted to go so bad but she wanted me with her.. So what do you do??? Eh you ride with your niece. I feel the falls on TOT are not that bad and your so sidetracked by the "show" that you don't notice them that much... I think you should try it.. It is a wonderfully done ride.. I think it is amazing. It is one of my favorites.
