Hi,
I am taking my DD to DLP in January. She will be just 5 when we go. Would anyone recommend taking a pushchair for her or would it be more of a hassle than it's worth?? Also, I read somewhere that they are available to hire at DLP, does anyone know how much they are to hire?
thanks
Jen

I would take one. Even if she doesn't sit in it all the time, they are great for carrying coats & bags etc! I will miss having one when my youngest doesn't need it anymore.

I wouldn't bother. I haven't taken one for my DD since she was 2 (she's now 5 and has been once or twice a year since 11 months). Theres so much to see and do she's always on the go. Plus she says she's a big girl. If you did find your DD was tiring towards the end of the day you could always hire one. The thought of struggling through the airport with a buggy and then it not to be needed anyway would put me off.

I certainly would. We just returned with our DS whose four and he used it loads, main street is long when youve got little legs! He also fell asleep in it after our exhausting early magic hours everyday. We also used it for carrying coats we werent wearing, and for him to stand in to see the parade. If its cold when you go its also useful to keep them bundled up with a blanket while you stand on the kerb waiting for the parade/show to start.
If you find you dont need it you can always leave it at a certain place and return for it later. when in Fantasy land we used to park it by a ride and go off on lots of different rides, returning for it before we went to a new land.
Hope this helps, sorry for typos, I have to go out so am typing quick!!

It really depends on your child - my DD was 5 when we first went to DLP, I didn't take her buggy mostly because she hadn't used a buggy anywhere since she was 3. She was fine, didn't complain at all about tired legs etc, and ran about from 8am to after 9pm every day quite happily. She slept like a log every night too ;).

I took one for my just turned 5 year old last summer - but it was long hours (8-11.30pm), very busy (I wanted to keep her close sometimes so she just popped in that) plus she has a sleeping disorder that mean by 8pm she could flake out with out warning! My dad would push her back to the hotel and let us stay and enjoy the fireworks :confused3 It was also handy when we were out late as I didn't have to worry about her getting tired or loosing her in the dark :goodvibes

More recently, we have done breaks to Legoland and Chessington , and I took the buggy purely for the reason that we would be returning late again and I know she would just fall asleep on the train on the way back (one break we got back at 12.30am!

If you are driving then I say you do not need a buggy, flying maybe if you have a fold up unbrella buggy that is light purely for the reason that you will want somewhere safe while in the airport. you won't need it in the parks as mentioned, you will be on the go all the time and the hours are much shorter. I'm being brave and not taking one on November. First time EVER that I haven't had rely on one (DD has had a major op and has cured her sleeping disorder so fingers crossed!) But then again I live right by Eurostar's Ashford terminal and always go by train :)

thanks for the replies. We are going by train from London, but as she hasn't used a pushchair for about 18 months, I don't think I will bother! Hopefully all the walking will tire her out so she sleeps well at night even when excited about the next day's activities!!
thanks again. x

We're going in March and our DS will be 8 weeks off turning 5yrs old. We're not taking a pushchair - I don't think he would even sit in one now.

If we're desperate I will hire one. I remember the first time I went to DLP and my mum hired a pushchair for my little sister (that was 14yrs ago!!!!) :goodvibes

Were just home today and my son turned 5 while there. We did not take a pushchair for him but did have one for our 2 year old. TBO he did use the buggy when he got the chance and even sat on it with his sister.

I personally would hire one for your little one, its a long day and alot of walking for little legs. I didnt find the buggy got in the way as there parking spaces for them at most rides.

No idea what the price is to hire but definatly worth thinking about. The buggies are quite sturdy and i actually seen some adults sitting in them while waiting:rotfl2:

It costs just under 8 euros a da to hire one so we bough one £10 from tesco as dd used pram loads on our last trip despite being out of her pram over 2 ears. Its a long da for them with a lot of walking

my dd will be 4 in dec and i am taking hers for our oct trip. i know she wouldnt last very long without it to be honest and she is too big for me to be carrying everywhere. really we end up leaving it by the rides when were are in a certain area, or my mam pushes it while she walks with me but its a lifesaver when she gets tired.

i guess it depends on the child. if you do a lot of walking at home and your kid is fine then you dont need it. if all comes to all you can hire one

Last summer our son was 5 1/2. We didn't bring one for him. On the third day he was tired, so we hired one. It was great. Him and my 7 yr old took turns in using it.

so confusing!!! I like the idea of having somewhere to carry coats etc, getting a cheap tesco one sounds like a good idea, because it works out to the same cost as hiring one for about a day and a half...will have to think on!
thanks again everyone, this forum is so helpful for a 30 something who is getting far too excited!!:rotfl2:

oh I sholud mention, on the upside, when we went last year we had one for our other son who was 11 months... you get moved to top of queue in the airport when you have one ;)

I am too taking one for my dd who will be 4 on the day we leave in November, i know she will get tired and i have a bad back so i will not be able to carry her she will probably be ok for the first couple of days but we are there for 6 days and all that walking we do i know she will need it especially walking back to the Cheyenne and in the evenings.

woo hoo under 8 weeks until our trip :banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana:

forgot to mention that Argos sell cheap buggy's with rain covers if anybody is looking for a cheap holiday one (i think i may get my dd's from here)

I would suggest taking one, its such a long time to be walking around, it's nice to have the option for them to sit down or take a napp later in the day :goodvibes

At 5 my dd went to DLP & WDW and didn't want one, she thought the idea of an older kid in one was silly. We did walk at her pace though and took breaks. I didn't rush her around the park so she didn't really get too tired. We last took one when she was 3.

I would say if you can take one without it being too much hassle, then do. If you don't need it, you haven't lost anything, but if you do, you save the seven euros a day it would cost to hire one!

We took a double in feb for our 2 and 4 year olds, and DD(4) only really used it when we were walking to/from the hotel (handy if its raining and you want to quicken the pace!), and you wouldn't be able to take a hire one away from the park without paying a hefty deposit.

We are taking Lucas for the first time next week and he's 2 years 4 months old - the main reason I chose to take one rather than hire is because you apparently can't take them out of the parks. This way we can use it all round the resort, which on tired walks back to the hotel or evening strolls could be a Godsend.

Ours cost £15 - there was cheaper but the reports weren't good - trapped fingers and all sorts! May get a universal raincover from Argos, or just risk it!
