Well I got in quite a dilema. I was supposed to go to DL Sept 23-27 with some friends that made these plans at the beggining of summer. Well now they backed down and are not going to go, and Im torn on going by myself or just canceling too. Im just worried it might be akward waiting in lines solo or dining solo. Anyone have any experience at DL solo?

I've been to Disneyland by myself lots of times, and it's still the Happiest Place on Earth! I found that waiting in line by myself isn't that big of a deal, there are always things to look at. On my first visit by myself (*** the friends who were to accompany me flaked!), I thought it would be awkward, but it wasn't. Meal times are kind of lonely, but I guess it's a tradeoff for getting to do exactly *you* want to do all day! Go and have fun :thumbsup2

Oh yeah! Definitely go...
I've done that several times to DL and WDW and it was just fine. Actually some days are better than fine because you can set your own schedule.
If you are uncomfortable eating by yourself, just bring a small book with you to read.
Counterservices usually you don't have to worry about being awkward. Table service might (since it takes a bit of time getting your food)...

And it's a great time to talk to some CMs while you're going solo... some of them have great stories to tell.

The only thing I find annoying about going solo is taking pics. There are nobody to take your pics and you have to find a CM to help you. Other than that, going solo could be a blast!

Definitely go and have fun! :)

I would go! I've already been on a solo trip, and I'm totally comfy by myself, so it wasn't a big deal to me at all.

Books for meals, or you can journal and plan in a notebook. Take pictures of the surroundings. If you want to have pix of yourself, take part in photopass!

The CMs who noticed I was alone thought it was so cool!!!

I've even done table service when I've been alone--the CMs have been great--I actually think they go out of their way to talk to a single diner (maybe they just felt sorry for me . . .. LOL). I've always gotten great service when on my own and had a great time!

I'd go!! NO question!!!! How fun!! :) Don't forget to use the single rider lines! :)

I've been solo twice. It's wonderful. You can do what you want when you want. If anyone dares to say anything, ( I had a little kid ask me why I was on the ride by myself) tell them the rest of your party is riding Space Mountain or they dont' like this ride. Honestly nobody really cares but you.

Sure, go and have a wonderful time!! I haven't done a solo trip, but when my DH and DS go on a ride I can't handle (which happens a lot), I love walking around by myself! Going on rides by myself (although Pinnochio kinda creeped me out being alone LOL).

But I just loved walking through the shops alone, getting a big chocolate covered strawberry alone :), sitting and looking at the castle in the evening, just soaking it up! I never thought I'd like the idea of a solo trip, but I think if I was in better health I'd do it! :)

I most highly recommend visiting Disneyland by yourself as well.
This year, I thought a friend of mine, was planning on going with me, only apparently they ended up deciding that they could not after all, of course it would have been nice to have actually heard that in words, instead of non-communication,over time telling me the tale! boy I really did hate that! Anyway, I have no problem with being by myself, for this trip, nor in life in general, I have not needed a babysitter since I was at least 10 years old.
I dined at the Blue Bayou, I enjoyed my meal, like I always do, regardless of whether or not I am with a friend. I had a water side seat, the only thing that was annoying was seeing people going by in the boats, that just could not contain themselves when it came to taking flash pictures! (argg!)
I did not feel self-conscious at all, at any time, no one knows if you are there by yourself, or with another person, or group, unless you tell them, and even if someone asks you, if you are alone, do you really think anyone cares that you are? they are probably thinking, gee I wish I was, because dealing with a lazy husband and 11 children is getting old, and is making me old before my time as well. Matter of fact, while I waiting to board my next Jungle Cruise adventure, a conversation began between myself and another woman, I made some comment about not being married, etc. and she said to me, you are probably better off that way, because being married,is not all that great. I have heard those same and similar sentiments from married people over the years. So I figure, while a baby's mama, is burping him or her, while dealing with her husband that it being annoying at the time, I know that I am free to go where ever it may be, and do what have you.
Keep in mind, that if you feel self-conscious being by yourself, that is something that you are or will be doing to yourself, not anyone else. After all, again, do you need someone to hold your hand? I sure as hell do not!

I have an AP and go solo a lot. Usually try to get there once every weekend for a little while. It is nice to be able to do your own thing and eat when you want to and use the Single Rider lines. Could meet up for a ride or two that Saturday if you decide to go and would like some Disney-company.

haha wow lotta responses fast. Yea, I personally don't mind doing things solo, but sometimes i feel a little self concious (spelling? lol).Yea, I really leaning on going just cause I am a disney addict, and going this year without going would really hurt my condition :rolleyes1 Thanks for the responses.

If you can afford to go by yourself, then by all means, give it a whirl. You will find out even more amazing things about yourself as a person in the experience!

I understand the self-conscious thing about travelling solo. I hated to even dine by myself until I took a job where I had to travel every week to a different city. That helped me learn (very quickly) that it could be really fun if I asserted myself correctly. I became a much stronger person as a whole!

BTW - I've also done WDW solo and that was a blast, too - CMs love talking to single visitors!!!!!!

Some things to do solo - go to the Cove Bar in DCA and have the lobster nachos. There is a bartender to chat with and other adults, too. The Uva Bar in the middle of DTD is another good place, too. Any of the lounges in the DL resort hotels will also give you that experience, even if you are not there to drink. You can get food, too.

I go to Disneyland alone all the time. It can be great!

You can do what you want when you want for however long you want. If you want to sit on a bench and watch a little kid play with a balloon for 20 minutes, no one is going to tell you it's time to get going. If you want to ride a ride no one else likes, no one will tell you no. And best of all, no one decides when it's time to go home except you. :yay:

I enjoy DL alone - it's whatever I make of it.

That's a hard question to answer. First of all, what kind of ****** friends cancel a big trip like that 2 weeks before? Second, and I only speak for myself, I could probably go it alone for a day or 2. And I likely wouldn't eat at any table service places. I just don't think I could do that. I would probably also bring an ipod or something like that to keep myself occupied in the lines. Oooh or one of those cool phone things that has tv on it! :thumbsup2

GO! What I wouldn't give for the chance to do the park solo! Never done it before but I could see myself getting totally immersed in soaking up the park like never before. Love my family but just thinking about traveling at my own pace, making my own decisions, and etc sounds wonderful. You could allow your inner Disney geek to come out and no one would be around to object!:rotfl:

Yea, after sleeping on the thought. I am going to go by myself  ive been looking forward to this trip to long to have something like that stop me. Thanks for the contributions, 12 days till i leave :yay:

Good for you! :) kyl777,

You go and enjoy your trip and your visit to Disneyland! :) :flower3:
