Should I Still Go? (Due To SCA Wild Fires)

It's going around, the fire that is. I heard Legoland, Seaworld, and The Wild Animal Park are closed! What about Disneyland. I leave in a week. I really hope (PRAY) that it doesn't hit DL. Should we cancel? Or try our luck? Also, what about the airports like, LAX and such, we are flying, will there be flights. :( I'm so worried. And those of you in the SCA area, PRAYERS go out to you. It is so sad that someone would commit arsen. I wonder if they knew this would happen? They better be greiving over this right now. It's not fair that people have to suffer for their actions. I feel bad for using a hotel room when I know I have a warm house waiting for me. I feel so bad! It's not fair! If whoever started that fire is reading this (They Better Not Be Dis'ers) they need to suck it up and confess so we aren't mad at them and other people!!!!!!! :scared1:

You are correct, all the parks are closed in the San Diego area. Disneyland is about 100 miles or so north of San Diego, I do not believe there is any danger in going there. Disneyland NEVER closes!!

FYI they just had a news segment that they believe the source of the fire was some high power lines running through a guys farm. He said that when high winds (from a Santa Ana) occur, they sometims "whip" together and cause sparks! The power and utilities investigators were on scene on this guys farm when the news crew was interviewing the farmer, and they refused to make any comment. But the "SOURCE" spot was under the power lines, and the burn area was directly away from that spot, in the direction that the wind was blowing. (Hmmmmmm:scratchin )

The estimates of fire containment is next wed.!

Just wanted to let you know about our experience yesterday.

We spent the whole day at the park and had no problems. In fact, it was the most pleasant trip we've had to Disneyland in quite a while. The crowd was very light. We spent our time in Fantasyland and Tomorrowland and the longest line I saw was 30 minutes for Autopia (didn't check Nemo). It was hot, but it is supposed to cool off.

As far as the fires, it was no problem. There were lots of babies and older folks who made it around just fine.

Honestly, I'd still go and plan on a great trip. I thought the fires would cause a problem. However, it was quite the opposite.

Just because you can't see or smell too much doesn't mean it's safe to be out there (especially elderly and children).

Sure if you're from out of state or something and already have your vacation planned, etc then I probably wouldn't cancel.

But if you are in the area and just going to be going...I would pass.

Better safe than sorry.

Did you really have a good time, I am really worried about coming out we have a vacation to DL planned checking in sunday oct 28th, we have a 3 year old and a 5 year old, and I do not want to risk their heath, neither one of them have asthama, but this is the first time to disneyland for all the children ages 3-15 that will be with us and I do not want them to have a bad time due to the air quailty and attractions or pools being closed. will you be in the park today? how does the sky look? do you live near disneyland?

You can view the current air quality yourself by looking at the HoJo Mattercam at this link:

It's looking MUCH better today than it has the last two days and I would guess that by the 28th it will be greatly improved.

The closest fire to DL is the Santiago Fire. You can see it from the 57 freeway. The likelihood that it would reach the park is highly improbable because if it did, all of Orange County would be shut down. From Irvine to DL (anaheim) it is very...I mean very heavily populated. For those that have never been, it is nothing like WDW where there is so much open space.

The winds are calm now but the Santiago and Arrowhead fires are burning pretty badly with 0-30% containment. Another set of Santa Anas are expected to peak this weekend up only 20-30 mph unlike the 70+mph the other weekend. Air quality is bad even though in some areas it no longer smells like a beach bon fire. DH came home from a business trip last night and he could tell the difference while walking out of LAX.

Attractions usually don't close due to smoke from distant fires but I am not sure how ash affects the rides. Most like won't close it unless it falls pretty heavily. The skies are much clearer where I live which is about 20 miles northeast of the park BUT it is still quite smokey.

yeah, the wind dying down is a def good thing... :thumbsup2

i can tell you that wind screws a lot of people up, esp CMs because no umbrellas are allowed to be opened to cover from the sun. I learned how terrible it is doing a cart without an umbrella. It is TORTUROUS.

I live less than 10 miles northeast of Disneyland and the air quality is very bad here. I think it's worse than yesterday. While the sun was rising through the smoke this morning, it was blood red. The children continue to be kept inside during recess and lunch periods. All Orange County high school sports have been cancelled throughout the weekend. While there may not be a strong smoke smell anymore (probably as there is no wind), I can't believe that it's good to be out in these conditions. We have kept our windows closed and A/C on. Despite limited time outside, my 11 year old has been having headaches. I can definitely feel the effects as well. The Santiago Fire is only 30% contained, so there is no way to predict when these conditions will abate.

I'm hoping that the fires are contained and air quality continues to improve.

We arrive in DL on the 1st, and plan on being their for 5 days before driving to San Diego. That part is up in the air right now, depending on what happens with the fires. We may just stay longer in DL.
