K...I guess if I'm gonna open up and join the gang as more than a lurker, I might as well go all the way!! So the "comfort zone" goes out the window...

The question is, am I really crazy, or just a die-hard Disney Freak???

DH has been unemployed for well over a year now, and so finances are tight and a trip to my "happy place" is out of the question for a while. So, I 've been dreaming...lots of people dream about what they would do if they won the lottery, but I've been doing it in sort of a strange way.

My extended family doesn't really get my Disney Obsession, or why we keep wanting to go back, so I dream of sharing my passion with them. All 42 of them. At the Poly. With special events and gatherings planned. Even how we would tell them about the trip.

I love to plan our trips, so I am planning this one...even though the realistic side of me knows it will likely never happen. It is such fun to imagine their reactions, and how it would feel to share the place I love with the people I love. It is a great escape for me, and a way to have a tiny bit of magic when real life is not very magical. One day I will get to plan a real trip again, but for now this gives me joy, and even my DH and kids join in on the "wow, could we....?".

So now that you've read my confessional dissertation, give it to me straight...do I need a straight jacket?? :upsidedow

Times are really hard right now. Anything you can dream that makes you feel better is OK by me. :goodvibes
(Now acting on it right now might not be a good idea....:rolleyes1)

It's good to have a Happy Place! And it sounds like you're doing it right- the imaginary way until things turn around and you can afford it again.

Lots of good wishes headed your way that your DH finds a great job. This is a scary time for many people who are looking for work, but jobs ARE out there and I hope he connects with the right one!

Welcome to the DISboards. :)

Now that you are not lurking, the boards are a great way to feel a connection to Disney. I was a lurker, but in the past year have tried to come out of my shell. Everyone here gets the "Disney thing" in one way or another, so you don't feel like you're crazy. :cool1:

Best wishes on the job hunt!:goodvibes

I understand how you feel. Last year I lost my job after 19 years with the same company. We had planned to go to the POLY for our 25 wedding anniversary in August. We had to cancel and it was a very depressing time for me.

I have now gotten a new job and as most people the new job pays less than 1/2 of the old job but at least it is a job and for that I am very thankful.

Hubby and I are now going to POFQ in January to celebrate. Not exactly what we would have planned but we are so excited as if we are staying at our dream place the POLY.

If planning a trip is what is going to get you thru this tough time than do it. Remember Jim Carrey wrote a check to himself when he was younger for a million dollars and eventually was able to cash it. You never know what is planned out of you. You yet may be able to cash in on that trip.

I hope things get better for you and know that if you need shoulders we are all here for you. :grouphug:

Good Luck and keep dreaming!!!

If you need a straight jacket, so do I :)

I have been trying to get my family on board for years... but there are a lot of us, and I know realistically it's probably not going to happen. Still, I dream about it.

Also, whenever I'm down, dreaming about going to Disney makes me feel better. Planning trips makes me feel better (even though I, too, am one of the many who recently became unemployed). Coming to the boards makes me feel better. Listening to the podcast has dragged me out of the depths of sadness on more than one occasion, too. And lately, I've been going to chat, talking to people who feel the same way about my happy place that I do. My theory is, if daydreaming about Disney keeps you sane, then dream on! :goodvibes

No, I don't think you are crazy! If it makes you feel better, it seems like a nice thing to think about and "plan". They always say that sometimes visualizing something can help you make it a reality, so who knows? :goodvibes

Thanks for understanding, and no...no plans to call dreams until the lottery ticket is cashed in!!

Lots of good wishes headed your way that your DH finds a great job.
I think he may have just found one...YAY! And thanks for the great welcome!

It's nice to know I'm not the only one who feels this way about Disney!! I think all the good wishes are helping...looks like he may have found something!

What a great story about Jim Carrey! And I glad you found something, it does give me hope. I'll never stop dreaming, but would be happy to scale down my trip if it means I can get to my happy place!
I couldn't agree more!
Thanks!! It's good to know not everyone thinks I'm nuts!!

I just know if I could show it to them my way they would love it too!! Sorry to hear you're unemployed as well - I hope that you will find something amazing very quickly! I may have to try chat one of these days... who knows, I never thought I would start a thread!

Thanks! :flower3: Faith, trust... now I just need a little pixie dust!!! I've certainly visualized it enough!! :lmao:

Thanks everyone for making me feel welcome, and not totally insane! I've known for a long time what a fun and kind group of people make up these boards, I guess I just never expected that kindness to be towards me! :grouphug:

It's good for you to think about the world if it makes you happy! It's probably a good thing that you are planning a trip! But don't become consumed by it! Especiallly if it doesn't happen for a while, you don't want to get depressed! Trust me, it is a very tough job market out there! It's pretty bad right now! But it will get better and your husband will find something! My advice to you is reflect on the memories that you have made at the world and that one day, your trip WILL happen!

I think that your planning for a 'dream' trip is a great thing to do. It gives you all something fun to do, while dealing with your setback.

I wish you the best....who knows, in 10 years you could be planning this trip for real.:goodvibes

Thanks so much...we do have some wonderful memories of past trips to get us through!

Not sure the "fantasy" trip could ever happen without the other side of the fantasy... DH guesstimates my budget to be about $100,000 :scared1::scared1::scared1:!!! So we would have to win the lottery for that to happen, but I am sure that other trips are in my future... and you never know, right?

Thanks for all the kinds thoughts folks, and the great news is...DH HAS A NEW JOB!!! Not quite as much money as the last one, and of course we have lot of catching up to do - but we have turned the corner!! Yay!:)

So happy to hear that DH has a new job!!! :cool1:

Hoping that more pixie dust comes your way as well.

Dream on!!

I am hoping that you win the lottery and you ask me to join you!

As far as the straight jacket goes...only get one if you have shoes, a purse and earings that match! Economic times are tough, it is best to only get jackets that complement your current wardrobe.:hippie:(that is a joke)

Thanks! He has started and is really enjoying being back at work.
Now if I could just win the lottery!! LOL:rotfl:

I have Mickey Ears, Disney Crocs, and a Tinkerbell purse...does that count??!!
Hey, if I win the lottery you guys will be amongst the first to know! I can bump it up to 43 I think! How does 8 days at the Poly, all meals included, Park Hoppers, goodie bags, Illuminations Dinner/Dessert Party, Fantasmic Dinner Party, Breakfast at Kona (TONGA TOAST!!), California Grill Dinner, and many other treats sound to you? We may have Mickey come to the Welcome Dinner @ O'Hanas. Check your calendar for late January, and as soon as my lottery tickets come through I'll let you know!!

Have any suggestions for other outrageous activities/events we should add to the entirely dreamlike trip?? Care to dream along with me?:cloud9:

That sounds AWESOME. Count me in!!!!!

This thread makes me think of the best quote (from a Disney movie, of course!):
The Mad Hatter: Have I gone mad?
[Alice checks Hatter's temperature]
Alice Kingsley: I'm afraid so. You're entirely bonkers. But I'll tell you a secret. All the best people are.

Let me know when those lotto tix cash in! :thumbsup2

Count me in. How about the Wishes Dessert Party? Depending on how big the lottery prize is, I think you and your family should get there a day early and stay a night in the Castle before you meet your guests.

You are on the list!

As to the Wishes Dessert Party... the family decided they would rather do a Fantasmic Private one (sacriledge I know!). We already have the Illumnations Dinner and Dessert Party, and I felt 3 dessert parties would just be too many for one week.;) We are trying to do only one "gathering" per day to allow the crowd to do their own thing as well.

I would of course LOVE to stay in the castle, but they don't just rent that out, do they?? Although if we spend the $100,000 plus we are looking at I think they should consider just throwing it in!!!:rotfl:

Great suggestions! Anything else??popcorn::
