I am kind of a wimp when it comes to roller coasters, but I have always wanted to ride BTMR. How bad is it? I ride splash mountain, i rode space mountain when I was much younger, but still think I had a mild heart attack on it : ) Anyone have any thoughts??

It's less jerky that Sp Mtn and the drops are less than Spl Mtn in my opinion. It's fun, but a little wimpy in the overall scheme of things, you shouldn't have any problem with it.

Its a kid's roller coaster. There is nothing to be scared of. Its way less intense than the drop on Splash Mountain. There are no drops. The max speed is 35 MPH. If you can ride in a car, you can ride this roller coaster.

I am a huge roller coaster wimp and I LOVE BTMRR! It is just twists and turns and goes fast. Very fun. Good for wimps like us! Go for it!

Big Thunder is milder than Space Mountain.

I'm not big on big drops or anything like that but I love BTM. It's just goes fast. It does have a few dips but nothing drastic!

Give it a try!

I am a big chicken, I make myself ride TOT each trip and BTMR is my fave next to EE if I can ride it w/o feeling like I am going to faint anyone can. I start hyperventalating each time I ride TOT but I do it for my family. Space Mt scared the crap out of me b/c I couldnt see. I thought I was gonna faint on EE but after riding it the drop wasnt half as bad as I expected. I love Mission Space and Test Track too

Thanks, I will slowly make my way to some of those rides, but TOT I dont think I will ever do!!

Serious answer: If you think you had a mild heart attack riding one coaster, you should NOT ride another without a thorough evaluation from a qualified healthcare professional, preferably one who specializes in cardiac events.

Light-hearted answer: That wasn't a heart attack, that was your stomach trying to escape through your nose, and that's perfectly normal on most roller coasters. Go ahead and try it (after you read and follow the serious answer suggestion).

Yes you should ride it :) At least once.

I'm older and love all the roller coasters at WDW. Well almost all. I have ridden Everest once and debating about the second time because I felt a little "unbalanced" after the ride.

But we are talking about BTMR here - one of my favorites. It's fast and fun. No big drops. Riding at night is the best. If you want a tamer ride at first, get a seat toward the front of the train. The back is more fun though.

Enjoy the ride!

P.S. Try ToT once, too, if you can. I chickened out three times before I said enough of that, I'm at least going to say I rode it once. If you have to, just close your eyes and scream :) After that first ride, it is now one of my favorites.

Let's put it this way... the monorail is my speed and I do try to ride BTMRR at least once or twice every trip to WDW. The drops are hardly anything; the only thing that bugs me is that it is a bit "jerky".

I absolutely refuse to ride TOT, Rock-n-Roller Coaster, Everest, Mission Space or Space Mountain. I do ride Test Track, Splash Mountain (with sweaty palms) and BTMRR. Those 3 are the craziest I get! I think it all can be traced back to a bad experience I had at a Six Flags Coaster in 7th grade. I swore I would never do another coaster again. But BTMRR is one of my favorites. I do get a tad bit nervous waiting in line but always return with a smile on my face.:thumbsup2

My mom is terrified of roller coasters and anything that goes up in the air. That said, I think her favorite ride at WDW is Thunder Mountain. She absolutely loves it because it is fast (compared to IASW;)), smooth and you never feel like you're up high in the air. BTM is less intense than SM, so if you "survived" that I'd definitely encourage you to try it, it may just become your favorite ride.:thumbsup2

It's a relatively gentle ride -- compared to the marquee roller coasters in other amusement parks, BTMRR is nothing.

I am a huge ride chicken! I ride BTMRR. Sometimes I have to geek myself up for it, but I ride it. Often more than once. Good Luck!

So glad I read this thread. After 9 trips to the world I have never rode BTMRR. After riding TOT our second trip I have avoided all rides with drops. I even hate Splash Mountain (gasp!) while our 5 yr. old DGS loves it and rode it three times last trip. Now I think I'm going to finally try BTMRR in November. Thanks everyone! :thumbsup2

I love all the rides at WDW, but I'm kinda ashamed that BTMRR is in the same company as Space and Splash... compared to those 2, Big Thunder is a wimp. It goes way too slow, there's barely any height to it, the wait area is extremely boring.....

Nevertheless, it's a great rides for the kids (and therefore the entire family). I still make it a point to ride it every time I'm down there, but if I don't ride it I'm not terribly upset.

Thanks for the thread I too can't stand dips. POTC dip is border line for me, I now can stand it after the second ride into my vacation.

Yes! You definitely should ride. Our favorite time to ride is after dark with no hands...but maybe you should try hands in the daylight first! :goodvibes

I feel your pain, everytime I get to the park I chicken out and don't ride anything scary! I have never even got the courage for spalsh! Like you I want to take an "oath" to ride BTMR, SPLASH,DINOSAUR,TEST TRACK.....

:wizard: Here is some good luck for u!
