Should I request a building at the Poly or no?

I have read all kinds of suggestions about requesting a building or even a room at the poly. Frankly, I really don't care where I stay at the Poly--it all looks great. The reason I question making a request is that we always go value season. Last time we went, we went to the Contemporary with a standard room, and we were upgraded to a Tower Lagoon view without even asking for it. I think all our excitement about being there just happened to hit the right CM at the right time. I don't expect an upgrade, but nor did I want to jinx it by seeming demanding. Should I go ahead a request a building?

I myself have never requested a building when not staying concierge. I think it is good to know where you might want to end up but I don't recommend making a request because I believe it just creates expectations. There are no buildings (other than Niue because it is all smoking) that I would be upset if I were staying in and only a handful of rooms I would not be happy with.

All I requested at the Poly was non-smoking, balcony, convenient to either pool. We got a GREAT room in Tokelau. I've always been more specific when staying at moderates, but decided most any room would be nice as long as we had a balcony convenient to pool! I'm not convinced we didn't get upgraded to a lagoon view since we were on the end and had a beautiful view of the castle. They didn't mention it being an upgrade, but that room sure will be a hard act to follow!

Thanks so much for your advice. That was my feeling, but everything kept telling me to make a request.

Suzem,

Was it a corner room? Do you remember the number?

Tikiman - it was a corner room on third floor facing toward the TTC side, go to the end of the balcony and we had a gorgeous castle view. It was a beautiful view anyway you looked - I figured it was a GV based on the fact you had to turn and look left to the end to see the castle - but wasn't sure. When I commented to the guy who checked us in that it looked like a great location, maybe we could see the castle - he said, "well maybe if you lean out and look around the end." So I was really pleasantly surprised when we got to the room. Maybe he didn't realize that room was on the end?

That would be room 3915 and it is not categorized as a lagoon view room. Only 3914 and 2914 are considered lagoon view but most of the rooms on that end of Tokelau have great views of the lagoon for a garden view price. That is why if anyone asks for the best garden view I consider many of those rooms to be the best for the price and also they are the larger rooms and have balconies on the 2nd floor. Other than those two rooms I mentioned a lagoon view room would face the water directly. Also the rooms on the opposite side of the building you don’t even have to lean out to see the castle. You can see if from many of the rooms down the building.

Glad you got such a great room.

I was very lucky, indeed, and it will be a hard act to follow! And I didn't have to lean out at all, we just stood at the end of the balcony to see the castle. One night while there we watched the fireworks and video taped them from our balcony. Another night we watched the fireworks and the water parade from the beach. It was a very magical stay, and I have to say I'm not sure I would have chosen to stay there had it not been for my visits to your website - that convinced me I needed to try the Poly! I may be spoiled forever now. It was the last 5 nights of our 2 week visit, so we were able to really enjoy the resort and soak it all in.
