Should I plan for DisneyQuest

Should I build DisneyQuest into my Itinerary or just keep it in mind if there is any time? I have two boys ages 6 and 10. THe 6yr old is 49inches tall ( I noticed a few attractions start at 51inches) Is it more than a fancy arcade? I have never been to Downtown Disney. We are staying for 7 days....see my itinerary from a previous post pasted below - Please, I need replies:




I am trying to pull this trip together. I bought the Unofficial Guide and it stresses planning is essential to an enjoyable trip, but I am struggling. Plus PS was so hard to get that meals have been affecting my planning. ( We got the meal plan) I thought 10/5-10/11 would be so slow - but I didn't even know about Columbus Day impact. We have two boys age 6 and 11 that don't go on major thrill rides. Please look at my plan, I have big holes in it still and I have questions woven in and also see if I have screwed up anywhere:

10/5 arrive to WL at 1:30, lunch at Whispering Canyon. Head over to MK and stay for EMH evening as long as the kids hold up. Counter restaurant for dinner.

10/6 Typhoon Lagoon (AK has late hours and MK closes early for MNSSHP) - what time should I leave WL to get to Typhoon Lagoon? Park opens at 10am Counter lunch , return by 4. Choice of 5:50 dinner at Trails end or 7:20 dinner at 1900 Park.? GO to Epcot for Illuminations if time allows.

10/7 AK has early hours - we are going to MGM. 11:55 lunch at Sci-Fi. Return to WL by 4. Rest - Counter meal at WL. take boat at 6:00 to MNSSHP. Is it bad to wait until 6pm to head over - I see others are going at 4?
10/8 MK has early hours - we are going to AK. Lunch at Rainforest Cafe at 1:15. No PLans for Late Afternoon/Evening. What should we do?

10/9 MGM has late hours. We are going to MK for 1/2 day. Lunch at Crystal Palace at 12:55. Head over to Epcot. 6:50 Dinner at Garden Grill. How long will lines be for attractions at Epcot afternoon and after dinner?
10/10 7:50 Ohana Breakfast. Park Plans ???

10/11 MGM< early entry day - Leave for Airport at 5:10 ...What to do during Day?

I'd just keep it in mind for a rainy day plan. At some point you might just need something to do; maybe after parks close.

I have 2 boys ages 7 and 10. We just got back yesterday and both the boys said that DQ was their favorite "park". We spent an entire day there. Don't worry about the 51" thing, there are PLENTY of other attractions that your son can do. We just love it! Much more than a fancy arcade. My dh also has a blast there. Free arcade games from when he was a teenager and I did almost every animation workshop they had that day. You can make your own music CD, build your own toy, play games as a family (Extraterrestrial and Pirates of the Carribean). They also have a nice alcove with tables and booths that my dh and I spent some down time reading while the boys played. I say, build it into your itinerary!

We spent the better part of a day there the second time we went in 2000. DD was 13 then and loved it. She made her own music CD (an extra $10 I think?), planned and then rode her roller coaster, magic carpet ride. Many interactive things. I liked the rapids ride - I even got splashed! I think for middle aged children (like yours) it will be a big hit. I do have to say though that it is very cold in there. I bought a DQ sweatshirt because I was freezing in a short sleeved tee. Plus the Cheesecake factory inside is yummy yummy in your tummy!

Our 5 year old and Dad LOVED Disney quest. DD and I went shopping. I think w/ boys it's probably a must do. Have fun!!!! Don't be so stuck on a plan, it's a vacation!!! You may not see it all, just have a blast!

Whenever we plan our trips to WDW, my two boys ask when we'll be doing DisneyQuest. It is a blast. The first time that we discovered it, we stayed 7 hours! We even made time to go back a second time during that same trip. There used to be one in Chicago. We bought AP's since we lived 60 min. away. We totally got our money's worth out of those passes. Enjoy!

You got some ideas from others on Disney Quest so I'll respond to your other questions.

Water park...catch bus between 9:15 and 9:30. Ok to get there early because the early birds get the beach chairs.

MNSSHP...if you get there at 6 you might need to wait until 7 to get in and you'll just be standing there. The park closes at 6. They send all people out who are not there for the party and then prepare the park. While they prepare, everyone left in the park goes to one of the lands to wait.

On Oct. 8...what about going to MGM to see Fantasmic? You need to be there at least 1 hour ahead of time. It should start at 7:30.

Epcot...you said you won't be doing any major thrill rides so you'll be ok with lines. If you decide to do the bigger rides do fast passes. Do Future World this night and do the World Showcase the next day.

On Oct. 10...you might want to head back over to finish up Epcot. Do the Worlds. The kids can get a passport (available at Epcot). You take that to each land and they put a message in it in their language. It's a great souveneir. There is also kidcot in each land. The kids do a project and add on to it at each land.

You could do the shopping in DTD the last day.


These things might not work for you, but hopefully gives you some ideas.

Thanks for the replies. THe last two days, it will be just me and the two boys - will it be hard to keep up with them in DQ by myself or should i try to get it in while dh is still with us? I just wish it was covered in my park hopper pass

You can definitely keep up with them yourself, particularly if you're willing to let your 10-year-old wander around and meet up with him from time to time (I let mine, and I'm the most overprotective mother I know).

I wouldn't miss DQ for anything -- it's my kids' favorite park too. Your kids are the perfect age. And I would advise you to go when it ISN'T raining, on a perfectly nice day, maybe after a couple of days in the parks when you're all a bit tired. That way it'll be empty. It can get noisy and crowded on rainy days and in the evenings, but even then the waits are never more than 10 minutes or so for any attraction.

It IS covered in your park hopper pass, as an extra (like the water parks). I THINK all the passes include these.

Disney Quest is a good backup for a rainy day. But I mean... its not like a "must do" Its good to experiance it at least once, and if you havent been there yet, I say go for it!

Just some thoughts....
we are just back and on our last day, my husband took the kids to DQ while I shopped for our souvenirs--they all wished they had more time to spend there. They said it was one of their favorite things that they did!!!! Wish we had built in more time for it and will next time. YOu asked what to do for dinner the night after AK. We went to AKL and ate at Boma's and walked around. It was great food and a neat atmoshere and a great ending to our AK day with the African cuisine. It's like a buffet, so there was something that everyone liked. I would also plan in at least one meal in the World Showcase. OUr kids like the Japanese place where they cook at your table, but all of them are great food and great culture. Have a great time---I wish ours wasn't over--it goes by so quickly!!!
