Should I make ADRs for GFCafe?

It seems that we'll be at WDW during free dining and am not sure how easy it will be to visit the GFCafe without making reservations.
We've stayed at the GF before (2005 honeymoon, 2006 2nd honeymoon! ) and have eaten at the GFCafe more than once. The first year we walked straight in every time but in 2006 I seem to remember it being more difficult and I think we ended up making ADRs for another night. I guess this might have had something to do with DDP?

I'd like to take DH there for breakfast on his birthday. If we ate dinner there we would probably want to eat quite early because of DD(1).

I know someone on here will be able to help us!
And let me know too if you have any idea how I can get an earlier dinner at Chef Mickeys - we've been given 7.45pm but not sure DD will make it:sad2:

Yes, I would make an ADR for any restaurant. I think everything is more difficult to get into. Especially during free dining time.

Someone just reviewed GF Cafe for breakfast on the Reviews sub-forum here. The lobster benedict sounded amazing. Unless you don't like lobster, that would be the item I'd want to try!

I'd suggest that if you can get your daughter to take a late afternoon nap, you might be fine with Chef Mickey's for dinner at that time. It's very difficult to get reservations there, too.

It's always better to have ADR.

If the restaurant I want to eat at takes ADR's I make one (if I can of course:rotfl: ) I would rather have one then walk up and hope to get in

When we dined at Grand Floridian Cafe, it was packed. This was not during free dining. Especially during free dining, make your ADRs. :)

I have to agree with everyone else ... if you want to guarantee that you can eat somewhere then make the ADR. :thumbsup2

We ate there for the first time a couple of weeks ago, it was a last minute change I will be reviewing it soon in my trip report. It was very good, would definately go there again, my point is we decided to add it at the last minute, In the morning we went to guest services at the MK to see what they had available for dinner, and the Grand Floridian Cafe was one. We did not have a problem getting a reservation at the last minute. That being said, it was not during free dining, and the first week in June so not such a crowded time at the parks. Hope this helps, but if this is a must for your trip, I would make an ADR just to be sure. :thumbsup2

We ate breakfast there during the F&WF last year - I think about 8:30. There were only 4-5 other tables with people at them. It was slightly busier when we left about 30-45 min later, but still plenty of room.

I've stayed at GF and eaten at the Cafe a few times and its very yummy and I never had any problems just walking up and getting seated.

That being said, its so easy to make an ADR and given the special event I would not take the chance with a walk up. We are going to The World this Christmas and I made a breakfast ressie there just to be safe (although in the back of my mind I doubt it would be hard to get in).

I love their Eggs Benedict, but hearing of that lobster version has my mouth drooling! That will be on my to try list for sure!
