Should I look for other DVC resorts too? (update:I OWN DVC POINTS NOW)

Here is a question I have for all you DVC owners...

I started my search for a 50 point contract to start my DVC adventure. I am on a list with the Timeshare Store to look for a Saratoga Springs contract. The first one didn't make RoFR and since that day I have been waiting for another call for a couple of weeks...

Now I am thinking to expand my request to the other WDW DVC resorts. Like this I would have a bigger chance to get a contract sooner. What are you're thoughts on this... Would you stick with the resort, or would you try to get any 50 point contract no mather what (WDW) resort?

I want to get my foot in DVC so I can start planning (I have a free flight from Belgium with my continental points). I want to plan a trip once I know I have a contract...

What are you're thoughts...

Also, I am sure I saw a list on the yearly cost per point for every resort somewhere but can't find it back at the moment. Anybody have a link...

Thank you
a future DVC member (I hope soon)

If you are not already a member, you may have a hard time purchasing a small point contract. Disney appears to be buying them up rather than letting new members get in under 150 points.

If you are interested primarily in a specific resort, then I'd have a standing search for that resort. If you don't care which resort you would purchase, then let the broker know your interests to increase you chances.

You mentioned you failed to pass ROFR with a prior resale- I would make certain my offer is high enough you would pass ROFR if you are really interested in getting started with a small initial purchase. The little additional cost may save lots of aggravation (and lots of time) getting started.

In the long run, you will spend far more in maintenance fees over the course of your ownership- so I would NOT get too hung up on saving a few $$ finding a "bargain". As you've already discovered, ROFR tends to even things out regarding "bargains".

Here is the history of DVC annual fees at all of the resorts:

Year OKW BWV VB VB(sub) HH VWL BCV SSR

2006 4.24 4.69 5.27 4.12 4.34 4.61 4.48 3.98

Good luck with your purchase! :)

Thank you for this information...

The price for the points where good and should have not been a problem. The Timeshare told me they where surprised it didn't make it true...

I will decide by monday what to do, but I will return here too see if more advice was added...

ThanX again

You might want to try other realtors besides TTS, it's like putting all your eggs in one basket if you only work with one realtor. You might try Jaki, who is fast and efficient. She got me a contract last year at only $75 pp, and it had a full year of banked points. No one thought it would go thru, but it did. :goodvibes

Thank you for the tips and responces so far (either here or by PM)...

Keep those ideas and thoughts coming everybody... :thumbsup2

You could rent from a member while working on your purchase options. You could also plan a trip on cash and cancel if the purchase comes through and there is availability. As for what's best, it really depends on your ultimate goal and situation. Why do you only want 50 points. That seems like an extremely low amount for someone from overseas.

I would rather buy my points without a big loan. So a 50 point would be great for my first buy. Then I can go for a 100 point stay and buy a second 25-50 point contract a year later.... Like this I will also get to the target I want but without big loans... just they way I would like to do it... (Hope it made sence)

Don't know if this makes a difference or not but SSR has a later expiration date. If you expand your search your membership will end in 2042 instead of 2054. Does that matter to you?

If you just want to get your foot in the door open up to any resort, SSR is newer and there are not as many small contracts out there. Most owners that added on to SSR did so because they did not have enough to vacation the way they want to. Since they have only had them a few years most have not had the "life changes" that force them to sell. Other resorts have older contracts that people are ready to get rid off. Children gone etc. leads them to get rid of the small add ons they no longer need. Good Luck

If 100 points will get you what you want, that sounds find. Another option is to save the money, skip the big trip one year and then buy something more in the line that you want. I hope it works out.
