Should I heed bedbug warning??

Hi everyone! I was just browsing online and found many reviews about the hotel we're going to be staying in from Sept.-Oct. Many of the reviews warned of bedbugs, and the poor response of hotel manager and staff when told about the bugs. Many people reported being "brushed off" and most had no response from hotel at all after checkout, although they were supposed to get in touch. I also saw the hotel listed on the Bedbug Registry, with the last report being THIS MONTH! Now, I know many hotels have had bedbugs, but I am still scared. I've had them once and we had SUCH a hard time getting rid of them.. Should I consider changing hotels??

My opinion is you should be very, very careful. I would be very hesitant to stay at a property that has had many reports and unresponsiveness from mgmnt. Yes, it is true you could run into bed bugs anywhere, but why stay somewhere that seems to have an ongoing problem?

My best advice is to educate yourself on how to check for signs of them. I always check for them wherever we stay but I know my inspection doesn't guarantee we won't get them, but at least I do all I can upfront. There are countless tips and pictures on the web.

There are lots of great places to stay at and near DL. If yiu need to make a change, I'm confident you will find a nice place to stay. Good luck!

Would you mind sharing the name of your current hotel? We can probably let you know how serious to take the report!

I would definitely look at other hotels!

Just my opinion of course, but I wouldn't play around with bed bugs. It's one thing to take the chance that comes with staying at any hotel (yes I know even the Grand Californian had an outbreak), but here you pretty much KNOW they have bedbugs (or very very recently had them) AND they have bad reviews regarding the customer service - that's a huge no for me. IMO its all about how management chooses to deal with the problem rather than having had a problem in the first place. If they can admit it and assure you that they've taken care of it - fine.

Eek! I would probably change hotels. I would be way too creeped out thinking about the possibility of there being bugs crawling around IN my bed. *shudder*

FWIW, I just looked up the hotel I'll be staying at in a few weeks on that Bedbug Registry, it's the Tropicana Inn and Suites (right across the street from the DLR entrance) and it has no bedbug reports. Might be one to think about!

The bedbugs wouldn't be my main concern here (although definitely important to consider), the problem is the unresponsiveness of the management. Bottom line is any hotel can get bedbugs, the question is how do they handle the situation?

It sounds like poor management at this hotel.

I would not stay there. No way. Bed bugs gross me right out and I do not want my kids to get bitten! I always check the registry for where I'm staying and ave never had a hotel reported. I wouldn't stay there if it was...period.

I would take the reports with a grain of salt. I've noticed that people seem to relish in reporting bedbugs in Disney hotels in particular. I'm not saying ignore it but definately look at reviews from multiple sources.

I worked for years in the hotel industry. Bedbugs are really, really hard to get rid of in hotels. They can travel between rooms through the walls and up and down the floors. So if room 202 gets them then 200, 204, 102, and 302 can all have them and they can just keep going from there. I personally would not stay at this hotel just because the managers sound like they are useless. Good luck to you with whatever you decide.

You should only heed it if it comes directly from said bed bugs, for they know what they are talkin' about, believe me..... :faint:

I think if you are asking the question, you already have your answer. If you are that unsure about somewhere, you will not enjoy your stay --- even if there is not a single bed bug in the place.

I saw that GCH has most reports of hotels in Anahiem on bed bug registry too. I wonder if this was the hotel the OP was referring too? GCH HAD 8 reports, the next highest was 3. It is disturbing how detailed some of the reports were, not just mysterious bites but the treatments they had to have done in their homes, and the denial of the manegement. One reports can be taken with grain of salt but I start to worry when there 's a pattern. Did I mention we 're staying there in Sept? Sigh ... something else to worry about.

Wow.

I cannot believe with the price paid to stay at GCH that people would put up with that.... Blech!

I haven't seen anyone share this, so I thought I'd share. For those of you that travel a lot and want peace of mind, Magellan's (one of my favorite companies) offers dream sacks and more bed bug preventions

well the hotel im staying at has 2 reports none since jan . I think ill call my hotel and make sure they know ive heard of the bed bug issues and maybe just maybe it will make them make sure the room is clean.

After reading the posts here I went to the Bed Bug Registry. What I read there surprised me. A couple of years ago I remember hearing about bed bugs and began checking my room/bed for signs of them. Since then I have become pretty lazy about searching for these disgusting little creatures. Believe me after reading the reports on the registry I will check from now on. And if I ever find them or receive a bite I will document it with photos and witnesses if possible. I say that because after reading the reports the hotel denials were amazing. :tink:
