Should I go?

I need help deciding? I have been invited on a girls trip to DW in 2015. I have the means and support of my husband but not sure if I should! We have been as a family in 2006, 2008, 2013, and 2014. The thought of being at Disney with just the girls is exciting but then I think of my DS13 and DD11 and feel selfish. This is an opportunity that may never present itself again. The friend organizing the trip is a DVC member at the Bay Lake Tower. Should I?

Absolutely.

Your family has been to Disney before, and will go again. I understand what you mean about feeling bad going without them, but, it seems silly to skip a trip just because your kids might like it too. My kids love to travel, I fly off on girls weekends at least once, usually three times a year with no regard about how much they would enjoy it. WDW is no different.

You're more than just a mom, you're a woman who deserves some fun.

Thank you for the encouragement. I work full time and have 5 weeks vacation yearly so I should not feel guilty. I have done weekend trips without the kids but you know DW is the crown jewel of vacations! INMO.

I think you should go!
Is there any way your husband and kids can meet you @ Disney at the end of your girls trip and you can have a few days with the family as well.
I am a mom who feels guilty for taking time for myself as well and think that maybe this would ease the feeling of guilt. It would also alleviate any disappointment that your kids might be feeling as well.

Definitely.

Just allow the boys to do their own trip somewhere (or even DW on a different date)

That's a thought, thank you.

Of course you should go! It's not like you are choosing between your family and your friends - an opportunity came up for you to have a fun trip, and you should take it. I think my kids would be happy for me! All of them have been on trips with friends, and no one here felt disappointed.

Yes! No need to feel guilty - your kids have been many times. Talk up some of the things you're going to do that they wouldn't like if you need to - like long leisurely meals.

Definitely, I am hoping when our kids are older and have all been to Disney that my husband and I can go without them :) and at the same time I hope to someday be able to bring my kids separately from the other kids, a one on one trip. I wouldn't worry about it, especially since your kids have been there and they've been there at quite a few different ages

I was in your same boat last year. My best girlfriend offered to pay my airfare (she gets a ton of airline points through her work) and for dinner at V&As (the real gift part) for my 40th birthday, the rest of all costs being split between us. We went for 2 nights in October during Food & Wine and stayed at CBR, we swam and went to V&A the first night and Epcot the second day.

I was initially feeling guity and nervous about it -my daughter was 8 when I mentioned it as a possibility and she cried a little. Broke my heart. But I still went and honestly the trip was very different from what I'd done as a family before. We only rode 2 rides, mostly to cool off, and spent the rest of the time eating and drinking and people watching. The pace was slow. I could curse. LOL I am so glad I did it and absolutely recommend it!!!

I really appreciate the input! Part of the reason I would like to go with the girls is because I know it would be a totally different experience. 1 week at DW with the girls at Bay Tower would be fantastic! My husband said if I don't go he is going to put a dress and makeup on and go in my place! LOL!

I know what you mean! I love stealing little moments for one on one time with the kids individually while at DW!

Yes- GO!

Not only do you deserve to have fun on your own I think it is good for kids to understand the world (and their mom's world) doesn't revolve around them.

Have fun!

I 100% agree with this.

GO and have a blast!!!

First of all, I'm totally jealous that you get this opportunity! I think it will be a total blast, especially at BLT!.

But also, I totally get the guilt. When we were at DLR in March, my husband mentioned that he'd like to go on a Disney trip, just the two of us (we were lamenting that we didn't do Disney for our honeymoon). I was like....see ya in 18 + years! (We only have one son currently, who is 1.) He went on to say there's no reason we can't leave them with family when they are younger and come on our own, and while it may be a little hard (some of the fun is seeing your kids have fun, for sure), we'll go WITH the kids enough for them to have plenty of fun. I hemmed and hawed a little, but realized he's totally right. As the previous poster said, it's definitely good for kids to learn Mom has a life outside of them and the world doesn't revolve around them.

Again thank you all for the support! I am very lucky to have great friends AND a GREAT husband who WANTS me to go! I have a few months to make a decision but after reading the comments I am leaning toward going!

You should definitely go and ENJOY. Have DH schedule a few fun activities while you are gone. I think that it's healthy for everyone to have some time apart. It will be a break for you and the kiddos. The kids will probably enjoy a little break from mom's structure. LOL.

Yes go! I haven been to Disney with family about 40 times. This past Feb I went for 4 nights with a girlfriend to run the princess half. I was worried about missing my family and the guilt before was tough some days.

I Loved It!

It was amazing to have zero responsibilities for a few days in the world. I even sat at the noodle station with a drink and people watched the castle. Dinner in places I wouldn't take DD6, no backpack/stroller etc. I don't expect to do it again for a long time, but glad I went!
