Should I get a Tattoo?

ALL my friends are getting tattoos. It is really big here in California. When one of my friends got a large tattoo on her stomach she got so much attention. Everyone wanted to see her new tattoo. I was a bit jealous that my friend was getting all the attention. Maybe if I get a Tattoo I will be more popular and will have more friends.

Are you glad that you got (or didn't get) a tattoo, like your friends?

I would only get one if I WANTED one. That's a very permanent thing to do just to get attention.

popularity is a bad reason to get a perm. tattoo. Think about whether you want one. Will you still love it in 10 years?

It took me until I was 28 to decide that I wanted one. Take your time, and do what you want. They hurt like heck when you get them, and they are there forever. Don't do something just because everyone thinks it is cool, go with what you feel is right.

If you are getting a tattoo because you're jealous of your friend getting attention, you need to become a little more mature in your thought process before you think about adding a permanent addition to your body. So no, you shouldn't get a tatoo.

Very well say.

Started to get a tatoo when I was about 15 but chickened out at the last minute. I'm really glad now, 15 years later, that I didn't get one.

I've been thinking about getting one for five years. Still haven't gotten it. The thing that holds me back is seeing people much older than me with weathered tatoos. The colors fade and bleed and time is not pretty.

My eldest sister got a tatoo when she was 20 (she's 54 now) and it's not exposed to sun-even though it was really clear and defined back then-it's hard to tell what it is now (a little devil with a pitchfork) and the saying she had put next to it is illegible.

Consider what it will look like down the road.

I think you should deal with your lack of security first. You sound very immature and with little sense of self esteme. A tattoo is not going to fix the problems you have......and after 3-4 days nobody will ask to see it anyway..

That's a really bad reason to get one. I agree that you need to think long and hard about it. You're reason sounds very immature. You need to think about whether you will want this when you are older. I chose not to get one, because I can't see myself as a grandmother with one (my personal opinion for me).

I was 30 years old before I got mine. And I thought long and hard about what I wanted and why.

I didn't just go and get a tattoo because everyone else was getting them.

Wrong reason to put something permenant on your body.

Thanks for the advice. I asked my friends why they got a tattoo and most said- because everyone else has one. Sounds like peer pressure. Maybe it will look silly when I am fifty.

I like change though. Recently I cut my hair real short and I got so much attention from everyone. I really was into the change and made a special point to run into people that knew me only as a long haired girl. Maybe that is why a Tattoo would be so much fun. A change to my apearance. Much of my self confidence is based on people telling me I am pretty.

Thanks.

After thinking on one for 10 years, I finally got it. I would never get one if I didn't really want it myself!!!

Just remember, it is something that will be with you for life!

Never jump into getting one... you could regret it!

I got one...
I was 23 or so
 everyone said I was way to chicken to do it -
I wanted it on my belly right near the hip bone - but when I asked the tattoo guy if tweetie would look like big bird if I ever had kids and he said YES i opted to go with upper thigh...

I hate it now...
I forget I have it - most of the time - but I hate when one of my kids friends parent see it and look at me funny

I wish they had temorary tattoos when I was that age - you are lucky - go get the temp ones...
you can change it every week that way if you want too - how fun is that! :)

Beauty comes from within. You'll realize this as you mature. Hopefully it won't be before you do something you regret later.

This is the worse reason you could give to get a tattoo. Do not do it. You will regret it the moment somebody else gets a newer/better tattoo.

Tattoos are cool...you should get one on your face like Mike Tyson....that would be awesome!

:rotfl2:

You may want to avoid reds and blues. A lady I knew has one on her ankle and every time I see it I think she has an open wound.

You also may want to avoid getting one that might inhibit whatever job you want- a model may not want a visible tattoo, or an executive position may cause a problem with a visible tattoo.
