Our son has major food allergies, and has to carry a epi pen. Should I get a note from his ped saying he has to carry the epi and that we have to bring all his food? I dont want it to be a hassle at the gates over this.

They have to take your word for it, they are not allowed to look at notes from doctors and they see so many meds and "special" snacks that they will not give you any trouble at all. We do this every year and as soon as we open our bag we tell them we have meds and snacks for a child with alergies and they look in the bag and tell us to have a nice day. I hope you have a great trip.

The security screeners at the entrance to the park are looking only for specific things like weapons, glass bottles (which could be a hazard if they broke) and alcohol. They will not be concerned or give you a hard time about food or an epi pen.
As long as your cooler is not one of the big ice chest type or one that is pulled, they will not give you any hassle about it.

You're welcome. Hope you have a good trip.

The only comment I've ever had about the epi pen was one of the guards telling me to be safe and have a wonderful day- I can deal with that :thumbsup2

My son also has severe food allergies. First time we took him to Disney, he was also 3. At that time, I had no idea how wonderful Disney was with food allergies! Now we don't bother worrying about snacks (but with a toddler, they need them). All the counter service places have ingredient info, and at any sit down place, just let them know you have a family member with allergies. A chef will come speak to you to see what your needs are, and go from there! They are wonderful! My son eats better at Disney then any other vacation spot.

Also for flying, we have medicine, and they never give us a hard time going through security. I usually have one bag full of meds - inhalers, liquids for his nebulizer, benedryl, epipens, etc... We do have to pack snacks for a flight, or eat at McDonald's at the airport right before flying (yuck, I know, but they have things he can eat at least).

You'll be fine going into the parks, they do just have to check the bags. It's not as highly scrutinized as the airport.

Oh - my son's allergist also wrote a great book, "Food Allergies for Dummies", by Dr. Robert Wood. I read it, and wished my family and my in-laws had read it when my DS was younger. It had so much great info.

I agree, no need to haul a day's worth of food to the parks each day - WDW is the best place to go with food allergies!

I always get a note from my peanut- and nut- allergic DD's allergist (since he is the prescribing physician for her Epi-Pens) to allow her to bring them on the airplane. In the seven years and many flights since her diagnosis, I have been asked to produce a doctor's note stating that her allergy is life-threatening and she needs to have her medication with her at all times, exactly twice. Both those times were in the Orlando International Airport.

Just my 2 cents....

Happy New Year!!party:party:
