Do I really need another credit card? Are there lots of benefits to having one? If the free DDP is offered for the fall are my chances greater to be able to book this if I have this card?
Thanks.

The only benefit I've ever received are the Disney Dollars you earn for purchases on the card. 1 Disney Dollar for every $100 in purchases. Some people think that's worth it, others do not. We were building a house so we charged everything (and paid it off each month in full) - and ended up with $949 Disney Dollars to use towards our package - but I don't think the average person would put that much $$ on their card. I don't plan to ever again! Other than that I haven't seen any good deals or offers -and I don't think the free DDP had any connection at all to having a Disney VISA card - someone correct me though if I'm wrong. Last fall there were some package deals available to Disney VISA card holders (which we took advantage of), but it seemed that the GP had discounts just as low as the VISA ones. There was a promo to get a free picture in Epcot if you had the card but we were unable to find the place once we were there!

All in all, I love it - I love to watch my Disney Dollars accumulate in anticipation of the next trip. Others would rather have a credit card with different rewards. To each their own!

Honestly, I have one and I don't think you need one. The mark on your credit probably isn't worth the small benefits that they provide and since it seems they are taking away more benefits than they are adding these days, it's really not worth it.

Thank you for the replies. It helped me to decide not to get the card. Especially if I don't need one to get the free DDP , if offered.

I got one so that I could take advantage of 6 months no interest for paying off your disney trip. To me that was worth it.:cool1:

I don't think it's worth it. We use our GM card instead so we get a really good deal on our next vehicles!

I've been back and forth on this too, but I think I'm going to pass on it now. I've seen more things towards the negative side then the positive. Not that it's a bad card, but there aren't all that great of benefits. Even though we pay our cards every month, and charge $20-30K/year on them, the thought of having another card isn't all that appealing. We have one that we use for most things cuz it's the Upromise (college savings) card.

I definitely think the card is worth having, if for no other reason than the interest free offer. When I am planning a trip, aside from charging it for the interest free promotion, I also charge just about everything I would normally write a check or use debit for, then write visa a big check, in order to earn spending money. Cuts down on what I have to save up in order to bring along for spending. All depends on your personal financial situation, really. I am not one who has or uses a lot of cards regularly, so for me it works.

I just got one for two reasons:
  1. Character meet and greet at Epcot - This is a special one open only to Visa Card holders. You can go once per day and includes a free picture (that you pick up on your way out of the park).
  2. Early DDP. I've seen numerous people post that Disney Visa holders got first crack at free DDP last year

If you've got small children, I figure the first reason is enough to get the card.

I wanted a credit card a year ago and chose the disney one. I figured down the road I could use the points (like for our vacation in May) and my dad was against me getting it saying that it will be worthless ( they have credit cards for like GM, Marriott, and a few airlines) well after about a year of me charging on it and getting points, and my dad hearing success stories from fellow co-workers and family members whose trips were 1/2 paid for from the card, he decided it would be worth it to get the card for our upcoming trip because he wanted to dish out the extra money and stay at a deluxe hotel and use the points on the card to help cover the room. We are looking forward to the character meet and greet and I hope to use it for Dolphins in Depth for the discount!

If you book through Disney there is no interest anyhow and depending on how far out you book you can often have much more then six months to pay for it.:confused3 :confused3

I would wait and keep an eye on what Disney Visa is offering people to sign up for the card. In 2004 Disney Visa offered a package to NEW card holders that as I remember was buy five days and get three days free. We took advantage of it and if memory serves, I think that it brought the price of a moderate down to about $79.00 a night. We took advantage of it. You really had to watch for the deal and sign up for the card during a specified period of time. You then got a code. Since then, I have seen them offer deals like so many Disney Dollars for signing up. You can always apply for the card. Keep your eyes open for the perks for signing up.

I want one but it's only for US residents I'm British. :sad2: I'm sure I read on the website that you can get 10% off purchases for just showing the card, which would be worth it as the card is free! Have a look at the website at the pros of the card. I just need Disney to do a UK version soon.

Three things to know about the Disney Visa:
1) They can and will raise your intrest rate even if you don't have late or slow pays. When I called and asked why they did it, they just said they had sent warning in my statement. The only answer I ever got was because we just did.

2) Intrest is charged at the point of purchase, not at the end of the month. In otherwards, you can not use it to charge items and pay it off at the end of the month; thus allowing you to accumulate Disney Dollars withnot paying thier huge intrest rate.

3) They also shortened the billing cycle!!! It is not a 30 day billing statement.

Obviously we paid ours off, and will NEVER get another one!

We've had a Disney Visa since Day 1 and have never paid interest. We pay off our card each month and have earned over 500 points per year.

I don't understand your #2 statement.:confused3 I've always paid my purchases off without interest.

Also, occassionally they will have a promotion to give double points on many different items. I think at one time on items like groceries and gas.

<edited to reflect that it is actually about 50 points a month>

Oops... I miscalculated in that last post so I edited to reflect it.

I have had my Disney Visa for about 3 years. Actually, I have a statement right now, and I checked about the interest. There is no interest on my card. I pay it off every month (except for the free 6 months to pay for your trip), and have never paid any interest. Not sure where you found that info about paying interest from the time you make the purchase. Or maybe I'm not understanding what you mean.....:confused3

I have had the Disney card since the beginning too and it's cute and all but I think there are better cards you can get that offer better % back on your purchases. That being said, it's my main credit card I use because it's got this nice sparkly pic of Mickey on the front and I just like it :) It's kinda fun to be like, hey for this trip I've got 100 free dollars to spend on pins just for using my card :)

Oh and I don't think I've ever paid any interest on it so I'm not sure what that was about. :)
