Should I get a Disney Visa Card?

Hope the OP doesn't mind me asking a few questions about the Disney Visa. Figured it would be easier with a current thread going. :goodvibes

With my Disney Files magazine (1st one since purchasing DVC pixiedust:) came an offer for a $100 gift card for signing up for the Disney Visa. The $40 was tempting but $100 has me about convinced but I have a couple of questions.....

Say I pay my bills using the card and pay the balance off each month, do I still get Disney reward points? I am thinking I will pay all my monthly bills and then turn around and pay off my Disney Visa. Seems like an easy way to get points as I have to pay my bills anyway and the points would rack up quickly. Can I pay the Visa the day the charges post or do I have to wait for the billing cycle to end? I see me racking points quickly between groceries, fuel, power, electric, etc.....

:thanks:

Yes. That's exactly what I do. I actually go one step further. As soon as I charge something, I go online and pay it. So my monthly bill is usually very low or $0, even though I have charged a ton of stuff on it that month. I'm nervous about racking up an entire month's worth of charges and then getting a huge bill in the end.

The reward points are calculated on the total dollars charged that month, regardless of how many payments you have made to them. If you charge $1800 worth to it that month, you will get 18 reward points, even if you have a zero balance at the end of the month.

Amex blue does this. I got almost $1,000 in July as credit on my card for purchases during the prior year. I get 5% back on grocery, drugs, gas, etc. too. I only use my Disney Visa at places where Amex isn't accepted.

Hmmmm....I have an AMEX blue....I think I will check into that. Thanks!!!

:thumbsup2 MTE. This is exactly what I would; pay the charge as soon as it shows online. This is brilliant. Okay, I am going to fill out the application. The earned point possibilities are endless. pirate: And how many points do you need to cash them in? Do they send you a gift card? I am thinking with 405 days until our next trip, I could earn quote a few points.

You need at least 20 reward dollars to request a rewards card. You can also pick up a rewards card at several locations around WDW and then call Chase to have the rewards transferred to it. You can also call Chase or request one on-line.

We too use our Disney Visa for everyday purchases and pay off the balance each month. I just used the rewards to purchase MVMCP tickets for our upcoming trip and still have a few hundred dollars for incidentals. It's just 1% and I know there are other rewards cards such as AMEX that offer better deals, but for now we're using the Disney Visa. I don't know how long the contract between Disney and Chase is. Before the Disney Visa, AMEX was the "official" card for Walt Disney World.

I believe they just renewed for an additional 5 years.

Can the card also be used for DVC loan payments or only for annual dues?

I was wondering this as well because I have $410 on a rewards card that expires 12/09 and I hope I can pay my dues early or I will lose the money since we have no trips planned to the world and don't need anything at the Disney Store

If you can't use it for next year's dues, by all means buy tickets for your next trip!

Just be careful in doing this if you put a DVC purchase on it. If you want to take advantage of the 6 months, 0% interest that you get for DVC purchases, you have to wait to make your payments until after the statement closes each month or they apply what you pay to the DVC purchase first (instead of to the monthly charges).

If you wait until the statement generates, then you get to take advantage of the full interest free option.

WE charge everything on our Disney Visas. I don't pay them off until I see it generate a new statement online. Once the statement is there, I schedule the payments.

Of course, if you do it this way, you have to be sure to keep track of it with the money in your checking account.

That's good to know. Thanks for pointing that out!

Sorry, I don't mean to hijack the thread, but I wanted to ask a question on an active thread rather than creating a new one...

Can I use the Disney Visa and get 0% interest for 6 months on an AP or other ticket purchase without a resort stay or is the 0% interest for 6 months on packages only?:confused3
thanks

I know that ticket purchases do not qualify for the 0% offer (unless they are a part of a package), so I would believe the AP's would not qualify either.
