Should I do this?

Hubby is determined that we are going to drive from PA to DW for our June trip. Whatever. I am thinking if we leave a little after lunchtime here on Friday we should get to DW Saturday morning, driving straight through with hubby and I (and maybe sis) taking turns sleeping/driving. Would it then be crazy for me to think that we could do a light day at MK on Saturday? The alternative of course would be getting a hotel room or staying with nearby relatives Friday night and heading out first thing Saturday but I would sort of prefer not to do this.

You know your family and what they can do, but I don't think I would do it. I cannot sleep well in a car and I would hate to use that money for a partial day admission when people might be testy (that's more of a reference to MY family than yours, lol!). I'd use that afternoon to rest and refresh and then hit the ground running Saturday morning.

We just did this in Nov. We arrived at WDW around 9am. We checked in, went shopping, went to DTD and the Boardwalk. We were going to go to MGM, but decided against it.

I think at light day at a park would be fine.

why don't you just take it as it comes. Not sure how long you are going for but the differrence in a 7 day or an 8 day park hopper pass is only like not even a few bucks. if your buying your tics ahead of time go ahead and buy the extra day. Even if you get there and only do a the parks for a little while you will have got your monies worth.

I agree with the last poster. If you are on a package the difference in the cost for a 7 or 8 day hopper is so minor that you might as well do it. We just drove down from York PA 3 weeks ago and it took about 14 hours. We left at midnight so that we were able to get in to our room when we checked in. DH does all the driving so he needed a nap before we headed in to Epcot for dinner.

I agree:thumbsup2 . When we went in July 2005, we left Friday at 5 pm and drove all night and got there around 1-2 I think Sat. we took a short nap and hung out at Typhoon Lagoon. very laid back, and everyone was so excited we couldn't have slept long anyways. ;)

We always use our arrival day as our EPCOT fireworks night....this way we're not forced to stay in EPCOT til 9pm on a day when we've been in the park since morning.

This works well for us...we head right back to World Showcase and let the kids start their masks with the countries....do what we can and finish them on the full day we planned at EPCOT.

We drove straight through from Niagara Falls area in Canada., (so only a few hours from you) We left late afternoon, got lost in the middle of the night :rotfl: (while DH was driving) which took us a couple of extra hours to get back on track. We ended up pulling into the rest area entering South Carolina and sleeping for a couple of hours after that (DH was beside himself).

We ended up pulling into WDW mid afternoon the next day. We immediately put on our swim suits and headed for the pool, spent a few hours there and had a pool side area dinner. Back to the room, put our pj's on, turned on the TV and fell asleep probably by 8:00. It was great because the next day, we had a ton or energy, we were up early and at the park for opening!!!!

For us, heading to the park wasn't a priority upon arrival, we were all just happy to be there and basically not spend 2 days in the car. It was a great way of doing things for us, you need to find out what everyone's expectations are for that first day. Remember, even if you tag team for the driving, you will still be tired.

Hope you have a great holiday!!!

We had only slept about 2 hours before getting on an airplane and arriving about 2:00pm on a Saturday. Then went to MGM to eat and then over to TL. If it is a EMH for TL I highly recommend it. We didn't get there until 7:00pm, put that is when the EMH started and there was hardly anyone there.

So yes, I would diffenently plan to hit the parks even if it is just a couple of hours and you should have time for a little nap. If you are like me, a long nap means no sleep that night and that misses me up for the next day.

I think if it were me, Id play it by ear.. I know myself, and I wouldnt be able to do it.. I get so tired just riding in a car.. Id relax that day, maybe go eat dinner at one of the resorts and then make an early night of it.. You'll be refreshed the next morning and ready to take WDW on.. Nothing is worst than starting out exhausted and you might not recover..

we did it in july im the only driver so it was a lil hard on me lol it was also my birthday on sat so i wasn't missing my first day at the park we where at MK at 9:30 we where there till about 6 lol before i had enuff what back to are room had take out an sleep lol best birthday u could ask for :goodvibes
