Should I do a backsplash with new granite countertops?

By backsplash I assume you mean the 4 or 5 inch high piece that goes up the wall? But then there is the rest of the wall between the top of that piece and the bottom of the cabinet that you are concerned about. A 4 inch granite backsplash would be nice, with something on top of it to cover the rest of the wall between the backsplash and the cabinets. I think doing granite all the way up the wall would be pretty $$$$, no?

I think tile would look good...just get a tile that enhances or blends with the color of the granite. Take a look at Am I There Yet's p[ictures. My guess is that there are some beige colored flecks in that granite, so the beige colored wall tile picks up on that.

Another thought...we have just redone a shower with stuff called Swanstone. It is similar to Corian, and it comes in thinner sheets that are smooth and can be put on a wall...we used it for our shower walls. We got white, but I would assume that it is avaialable in other colors as well. Perhaps look at it as another option...smooth, minimal seams, no grout, easy to keep clean.

I don't like tile.

Alright, so I like it... I just don't like to clean it.

Our decision was easy when we redid our kitchen. We did Zodiaq countertops because they are non-pourous and continued the backsplash up the walls to the cabinets. I think it looks more open and every time I have to clean it, it's easy. There are no bumpy surface or grout lines with which to be concerned... piece of cake to clean.

Yes, it was more expensive. That wasn't my primary concern. What was is that I'd like it for the years to come. I didn't want to regret my selection... Two years later, I don't

We stopped the granite at the wall and did a tile backsplash up to the bottom of the cabs because we felt that granite up the wall was just way too much. We used a neutral 4 inch tile with smaller glass tile scattered through out.

We made the right decision.

There is. Neither picture that I posted shows the true color of the tile and Uba Tuba has a tendency to photograph "black", when in reality it's a very dark green, with black and gold flecks.

My tumbled marble has a lot of gold tones. It complimented it very nicely.

I would do tile. I think that a backslash looks better when it is not made of the same material as the countertop.

Alright, so I like it... I just don't like to clean it.

The tile I used for my backsplash is very "holey". It has lots of grooves in it, that were filled in with grout. So, I have more grout than most people have, and in my opinion, grout is the hardest part to get clean.

I used the same sealer on my backsplash that I used on my granite (made by Stonetech).

Not too long ago, my DD made spaghetti and splattered sauce all over the backsplash. I was not a happy mother.

Believe it or not, every bit came off with a wet cloth. I couldn't believe it! If it hadn't of been sealed, I'd hate to think of what damage she would have caused.

Thank you for all that replyed. I think you all had great advice ! I told DH if he couldn't help me decide, I was going to the Dis . He laughed and said "you don't really post stuff on there do you?" That was when he caught me starting to reply to the reading in the bathroom thread, needless to say I didn't get to go through with my post on that subject.

OT: I can't remember the color name of the granite, but it is very neutral. Beige with brown and tan specks. Hopefully it will look good. It is hard to tell how things are going to look with those tiny samples.

I think I am going to go with the granite back splash and tile the rest or paint haven't decided yet. I deal with it later. I did like the idea with having the granite notched out for the tile.
