Should I change to a guaranteed stateroom?

Currently I'm booked in Cat. 4E on deck 5 with the oversized verandah. I normally sail in Cat. 5E as I like the aft and the huge space the verandah gives, especially now we have DD 1 as it gives her more space to run around.

I should specify that the room I have at the moment connects to my parents which we would still need. What would be the chances of them being able to keep us together? I know they say you will get that stateroom or higher but that could mean a higher grade category which would come with a smaller balcony, this to us would not be an upgrade as we want the bigger outdoor space.

Do I take a chance and change to guaranteed status or stick with the rooms we have? For those who have done guaranteed, what have your experiences been like?

If absolutely have to have a connecting stateroom with your parents, do not go GTY. There are zero guarantees and about the same chance that you would randomly wind up with connecting rooms.

I would decide if I ended up in a small verandah with non connecting rooms, would I be regret not spending $350. On a 7 night, that's $50 per night... for me, on a 7 night I'd prob keep the current set up, but for a 3 night, I'd pocket the $118 per night knowing that I night have a small verandah and a walk to see grandparents

iVe done GTY a few times and not once did I get the great room everyone else seems to get! :charac2: . Im just not lucky that way. But what I do know is that when i have done GTY with family we have at all times been placed right next to each other, however not necessarily connecting. The other thing I know is that I spend a great deal of angst waiting for the room assignments and then am usually disappointed and regret not keeping the original booking. If $350 is really important for your budget and you would be ok with a different room you can go for it. But it sounds like the room you have is what you want and connected to your parents. I would not move if it was me . GOOD LUCK!!! And if you do choose to do it and don't get the room you want you'll still have an amazing time!!!

You have a 4E booked; what category is the GTY? Lower than 4E? And you are hoping DCL would “upgrade” you to the same room you currently have booked? Just know that despite what gets reported here, the majority of GTY assignments are the category booked, not upgraded.

Or is it a VGT that you are considering? If so, are you past the PIF date? Be sure to accounted for any cancellation penalty, which might wipe out that $350 savings. Plus, since it would be a cancel and rebook, I believe you would lose any excursions or onboard activities you may have already booked.

Enjoy your cruise!
