Should I change resort reservations?

I am heading down to the D23 Expo in August and since the hubby is not working (full time student), I really need to keep costs to a minimum. I was able to get Eden Roc at $40/night, which is way cheaper than anywhere else I have seen. The reviews on Hotels.com were not awesome, but in general they were "old but clean". I think I can deal with old, but I cannot deal with dirty. (I am hoping I have not been spoiled too badly by all my DVC stays over the last few years.) I have seen some comments on some older posts here that make me think that the rooms may actually be worse than the reviews indicated.

Will I regret staying here? Should I spend more to stay somewhere else, and if so, where? The more I spend on the hotel, the less I can spend on fun stuff.

I am planning on going to the parks one day prior to the Expo and one day after. The rest of the time will most likely be spent at the Expo, so I would prefer an easy walk to the convention center. This is my first and possibly only trip to this area and I want to make sure I enjoy it. It would suck if my experience were ruined by a really bad hotel room.

Any suggestions?

I would change. I've read nothing but awful things about Eden Roc. You get what you pay for and $40 is not much as far as DL area hotels go...

I recommend trying Hotwire. I would rather gamble that I get a nice room in the $50 range than deliberately pick a $40 room that has received numerous bad reviews. The 2 star rooms at Hotwire would be like a La Quinta or something.

If it is just you, I might also try Priceline. I don't use Priceline because they don't guarantee enough beds for my family of 4, but if you are going solo or with someone where only 1 bed is needed, they work well.

betterbidding dot com is a good resource to help with those sites above.

I got a $57 room with Hotwire last month and I was more than satisfied. (I put up a review for Hotel Menage).

So, don't thing "resort." Think "tacky motel," because that is what you will be getting.

Have you tried the entertainment book rate at Hojo's?

I'd change too. The money saved will most likely be spent on decontamination. ;) The reviews look bad. :scared1:

I'm having issues with going from the GCV to the DLH. I'd have to be medicated.

I feel your pain...the Dobies are "settling" for PPH this summer!

I also would change, the place is a dump. One of my brothers tried to cheap at ER and left in the middle of the night for PVI since it had an opening. You can find a better place in Afghanistan.

I got the double tree Hilton through priceline name your price for 45.00 per night. I never had used priceline before and was amazed at how easy it was. You can pick the area of anaheim you want to be in.

My only concern with Priceline is that I really need to be within easy walking distance to the convention center and I can't guarantee I would get that with the name your own price feature.

What about the Super 8? Looks like I can get it for an average of $62/night. It is hard to tell how far some of these places really are on most generic maps. How far of a walk would it be to both the convention center and the parks?

My SIL stays at the Super 8. Says it clean and no frills. Sounds like a better option.

You would want to study up on sites like betterbidding.com. They can help you narrow it down to what you might be getting, based on descriptions.

I got a room at the Hilton right there at the center for $54 a night (same as the room I had reserved at Motel 6, which, by the way, is said to be a pretty decent motel) plus parking, and before I clicked to get the room I knew it was going to be the Hilton or the Hyatt thanks to that site.

We were just in the villas for two nights and did the switch to PPH. I had somewhat low expectations, so it was actually better than I expected :). Very clean, comfortable beds, nice service. Just across the street from the GCH so the walk wasn't that much longer.

To the OP, I would switch after reading the reviews. Clean is the most important!

To the parks about 10-15 min, depending on how fast you walk. One year our friend stayed at the Super 8 (we were at FFI that year), and when we went to his room it was definitely clean. Spartan, kinda reminded me of a dorm room before the college student gets there in its simplicity of furnishings, but clean. =)
Btw, I think he got it for just under $50/night ...
If not Priceline, then Hotwire? You can specify Anaheim - Disneyland South as the area which should put you within walking distance of the convention center. The other alternative as a DVC member is if you have some points to spare you could always use them at PPH/DLH. Sadly, I never seem to have any extra points and am always in borrowing mode ...

Unfortunately, I have no points available. :( I too am in borrowing mode most of the time.

Hi Jenny.

My name is Dobie and I am addicted to the GCH, the pool bar at the GCH, and sliding down the GCH pool bar slide with my margarita in one hand and the top of my bathing suit in the other.

The super 8 is clean we stayed there a couple years ago, but the walk would be very long to the convention center to DL its about 15 mins or so.... whatever u decide have fun!!!

Unfortunately, priceline changed their anaheim zone about 2 months ago, so now Hilton, Hyatt, Marriot, Sheraton and Red Lion right by the convention zone are in the same zone as Orange County hotels, like the Orange County Ayres and Orange County Double Tree, which are both a little past Angels stadium, on the opposite side of the freeway than Disneyland. I got the OC Double Tree hotel and while the hotel was OK, it's not near Disneyland or the convention center, so unless you have your car and want to pay to park at Disney or the Convention Center (on top of the $13/night they charge you to park), you're at the mercy of their once an hour shuttle, which was never on time.
