We do Chef Mickeys for our arrival day dinner each time we go to Disney. We've never had any complaints. In fact, we've never had any complaints about ANY of the character dinners at Disney.
I probably would not do 1900 Park Fare due to your childs age. I know that when my kids are that young, they do not recognize "face characters"....only the ones in full costumes. My four year old has just reached the age where she wants to have a meal with the princesses. She has just begun to recongize them. My 16 month old would care nothing about it.
I think you will be fine with Chef Mickeys, especailly if your parents main goal is to see their grandson enjoying himself. I mean, you will probably not walk out of CM saying "WOW, that was the best meal I've ever eaten".....but I also dont think you will think it is terrible.
