Should I cancel and rebook?

I didn't realize that you have to book insurance within 15 days to get the kind that allows you to cancel for any reason. I have put my down payment down through a 3rd party travel agency and have a paid in full date of October 22nd. When I search the cruise there are still cabins available at the rate I got mine for. If it matters, my cruise date is January 20th. I'm concerned about issues my husband might face for missing work (long story on PTO availability when hired and potential disciplinary action).

TIA!

Have you checked various insurance companies for their restrictions on "cancel for any reason" coverage? Or only one?

I arranged for my parents' insurance way after their PIF date, and they had all kinds of coverage (due to my Dad's health). I would look around.

I think the 15 day window on some insurances is for Pre Existing Conditions, not Cancel for any Reason. There are very few policies that cover Cancel For Any Reason without a hefty fee (in my experience).

Also, there are some travel insurance policies from some companies that are cruise specific, which I think is nice (which we have for our upcoming cruise next month). I'll probably be purchasing from the same company for our Alaskan next year. Again, you can google specifically for "cruise trip insurance" to find more.

Cancelling and rebooking may not help your eligibility for a cancel for any reason travel insurance policy. Many plans include wording like “this is the first and only booking for this same destination and dates of travel” as a condition of waiving the pre-existing medical condition exclusion or allowing you to upgrade to a cancel for any reason policy. You cannot cancel your trip & re-book it to just reset your initial trip deposit date.

However, the DCL policy functions as a cancel for any reason policy. If you cancel for a non-covered reason, you get a credit equal to 75% of your fate towards a future cruise. http://disneycruise.disney.go.com/cruise-vacation-insurance-plan/

Make sure you read the DCL policy -- any other policy in which you are interested -- to make sure it meets your needs. -- Suzanne
