Should I buy more points?

We've been DVC owners for some time and own 150 OKW and 60 at BCV.

No surprise, we're running out of points and have already borrowed next years for Spring trips.

Anyway, while looking at listings at the Timeshare store I'm a bit confused as to which resort to buy into. We like the Beachclub but Boardwalk points appear cheaper and Vero is the cheapest. We generally do OK with the 7 month window bookings.

Any suggestions? How have others approached add-on purchases?

Thanks!

Addonitis has struck!!! Only one cure.. BUY.. BUY.. BUY!!!! lol

Good luck with your decision!

I wouldn't buy at VB unless I wanted to book there at 11 months because the MFs are so expensive. We do own VB points, and use them there.

We recently added on at SSR via resale (not closed yet), which is a new home for us. The price was right, the contract longer than either BWV or BCV, and I think we own "enough" points at each of those. When we did add on our BCV points, I found it better to go through Disney because the resale contracts were mostly stripped when we looked and with Disney we got all current UY points which we could bank.

Good luck as you make your decision. We are pleased that we will have the opportunity to try to get a treehouse at 11 months, and that we can try to use those points elsewhere at 7 months. OKW, which has very reasonable resale prices doesn't appeal to us. It is hard for me to climb up/down steps and I don't always want to ask for 1st floor or elevator building, it's only a request and yet it's what I need.

My advice would be to decide which resort you would like to spend more time at, even during busy times like F&W, December, holidays, etc. If you are truly interested in BWV and would like to go there during busy times, then buy there. Also consider the cost of the MFs. IMHO, it doesn't save you much to buy cheaper points if the MF's are so much higher.

I started out with 160 AKV points and then added on two 50 point contracts. That gives us enough to have a really nice trip every year. Soon I realized that I wanted another resort that I can visit every 3rd year, giving me a 2nd annual trip to WDW. I bought 60 at BCV, so with banking and borrowing, we can get a nice 5-7 day trip there every 3rd year.

I'm done with addonitis for a while. I'm waiting to see my 2010 MF bill, which I have a feeling will scare me away from adding on for quite a while. :scared1:

Good luck with your decision!

We have gone back and forth on this many times. We have 150 pts at SSR, and have borrowed a few for the last few years as we needed a 2 Bedroom when family came with us.

We are going to AKV this Saturday and borrowed from next year. We have 124 points for 2010, so we will borrow from 2011 more than likely to get a 1 bedroom for our trip next year. I know this keeps pushing us back a bit but so far it is working well. We figure at some point we will skip a year at Disney to let our points get caught up or bank what we have left.

Right now I think we are fine. I would like more points, but we have been able to go every year and get the accomodations we want. I am still a bit worried about the economy, so I am not really willing to add more financial burden at this time.

You like BCV and now own 60 points there. Is this enough points for your stays at BCV? If not I'd buy more points at BCV. Probably another small contract 75 to 100 points max. I would definitely try to find a resale contract first. It might take time to find one with your use year and for a small number of points. I'd also check with my guide for how much it would cost to buy with Disney. I'd compare the total cost include closing costs and any MF you'll pay for either contract between resale and direct purchase.

If it is enough, is there any other resort you would really like to stay at? If BWV's location is what you want and you won't mind not having access to SAB, buy at BWV. The points are definitely lower. And it might save some money but will it help you get the villa you want, when you want it and where you want to stay?

We just had a case of addonitis. The cure is still pending :lmao: and we should be all better by mid-Nov.

We have kept adding on at OKW. We love having all of our points at one resort, so we have the flexibility of getting larger rooms and multiple rooms when bringing family. I see a grandvilla in our future.

I think this would be harder to do when owning at several resorts because you might need to stay at different resorts. However, if you know that you will only be booking for your immediate family, then it wouldn't make a difference.
