I am trying (still) to convince myself and DH about buying a DVC. My only question is - Should we buy a DVC timeshare sight un seen? We have not taken the tour or spoken with a represenative face to face, so should we wait until our next trio to WDW (*With a new infant mind you) or should we go ahead with allof the media we have recieved and just do it? :scratchin

:confused3 Do they have guided tours and what not for possible buyers where you tour the individual resports or how do they do it when you are actually in WDW face to face with a seller?

Thansk for the info! pixiedust:

no need to wait - we bought without ever staying on site! via resale from The Timeshare Store

We did!

We had been to WDW many times. We loved the location of the old Disney Institute and new that SSR would be as nice or better.

We have 5 children and need the 2BRs so we would of spent $3500 for lodging to see SSR. For us it just seemed to make more sense to use that money toward a down payment.

We have not regretted our decision!

My sister did a few years ago after I bought at BWv and she loves it. She bought at BCV and then added on later, also.

How sure are you that you will buy when you are there? Are you waiting to be convinced to buy or is it something you will do anyway? If you are not sure than you should wait.

Since we live in a province where Disney is not able to sell, we had to wait to buy when we were there, unless we went resale. We were 98% sure we would buy, but to make ourselves 100% sure we wanted to stay on site (paid cash), do the tour, see the representative etc, etc. Well, what we learned was that we wished we would have just bought dvc site-unseen.....the $3500.oo would have made a good down payment.

They do show you around SSR but when we asked to see the other resorts they said that we could visit on our own but since they are sold out they do not have show-rooms or tours for those resorts....made sense to me

Good Luck in your decision

We bought sight unseen as well......

Disney does a good job with the accomodations that we figured it would be fine. We bought into BWV and never been in the building. Needless to say my DW has never even been to the Boardwalk area in itself. Trust the Disney Magic......and trust the people here....they know what they are talking about.
I'll find out next week for sure if it was all worth it. Our first stay at BWV...

browniemtb,
you are going to love BWV. The resort has such great atmosphere. Just strolling the boardwalk at night is great. Lots to do and when you have had enough of the boardwalk for the night, you are right there at your room.

Bought sight unseen and NEVER regret - added on gradually through dvc resales. Tried to live without it - couldn't. Got spoiled staying at the villas and being close to MK, EPCOT, MGM. Thought of paying out of pocket for rooms, despite mousesaver codes, specials, etc, prices for room are outrageous and DVC allows you to stay at the nicest spots, greatest locations, swim at the greatest pools.
And as far as sight unseen, go to WWW.WDWIG.com they have photos of EVERY room and everything Disney - photos show it all - You can't beat Disney for a great vacation.
I don't live close (Philadelphia) and budget trips based on airfare, but if I could drive down, I'd be there alot more often. Even a studio allows you to stay Sunday through Friday(departure) with under 100 points -
JUST DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We bought sight unseen today! :cool1:

We had not even recieved our pretty purple book before we decided to buy in. We got 300 points at SSR and are glad that we didn't go through any of the tours and meetings. I think that would have prompted us to buy something that we hadn't researched enough. Also, I got more info here that from any materials or my guide. Actually, he even tried to talk me out of buying my 300 points. He said it was too many and I actually had to convince him that it was what I wanted and I wasn't using them just for myself.

First- I had been to disney many times before buying into dvc, but i had never seen the BWV (where i purchased).

1) You can see everything you need to see on the internet- rooms, accomodations, etc

2) there are thousands of people here on the boards, many of whom bought- sight unseen, and very few who regret it

3) just go for it...

We rented points for a stay at okw. Then purchased ssr sight unseen. And did an add on at bwv before the ssr purchase was final. Never looked back.

All of the DVC resorts are great!!!! Plus you can stay at any one on them!!
You really can't go wrong. Ask yourself what is the worst than can happen??? You hate it and then you sell.

I see no reason that you can't buy "sight unseen" if you really love Disney, even if you don't......you will!!! Hopefully. Good luck with your decision!!!!

We toured three times before we bought...husband kept talking himself out of it once we left. When we went back in January courtesy of my inlaws off-site timeshare, I only had to stop at one info booth to ask a few questions...they let me pick my tour time, had someone pick us up and take us where ever we wanted to go afterward. We still dragged our feet and ended up coming back again to sign papers before leaving.

Although husband needed to see it all, we wasted ALOT of our Disney time in touring, questions etc. Could have done all that before going. At least we didn't spend money on Disney lodging too...that would have been a double whammy for me!

If you've been before, you know the Disney quality...if you understand the program, the only decision to make is how many points to buy!

BTW, we didn't buy enough...I'm already trying to get husband to buy more...

We called after reading about a special promotion when they started building SSR. After talking to our guide, he sold us 200 points at BWV, we had never been there before. We tried to visit once, but couldn't find a parking spot. Now, we get a pass pixiedust: .

Here is my next question - and I apologze if its a bit wordy - I don quite now how to say what I am wanting to know. Here it goes... :crazy2:

I am not all that thrilled with SSR - DH wants to be close to the action and SSR seems so far away. If the Poly had villas we would buy there in a heart beat! That being said - Would we get the same point value anywhere we stay thats in the DVC plan? I mean - could we stay at BWV or BCV if we wanted to for the same value per pint just like as if we stayed at SSR? (Hope that makes sence??) Am I correct that the only difference is that I am guarenteed a spot at SSR, my would be home resort, rather than the desired resort? Is that too wordy?

And - Does Disney themselves sell re-sales or would I have to go through the timeshare Store to do it? Thanks again you all have been every helpful! pirate:

Hi there!

I had been to Disney Numerous times with friends and FINALLY bought DVC after a close friend did. We met down there for the first DVC trip at the end of January and LOVED it! (OKW)

Like many DVCers, I wish I had done it SOONER!

That being said....go to The TimeShare Store....(Our DIS sponsor)
Jerry Sydow did mine and my friend's and we had NO problems! He will look for what you want and help you thru the purchase.

Go for it! Nobody I talked to regretted the purchase and they were veteran members!!!! Very Nice Disneyfied people!!!

Welcome Home---Enjoy the Magic!

The points are a little different for each DVC resort. The per night at BWV, BCV and VWL are the same, but are a little more than OKW or SSR. You can also get BWV through DVC if that is what you want at $92 per point. Just insist with your guide when you talk with him that you want BWV. It is definitaly closer to all the action. I would say BCV, but there is usually a wait for that resort.

My sister and I bought into DVC sight-unseen. We were in Disney and saw all the stations that were advertising it but didn't take the time to stop by. Once we got home, we wanted to know more so we got the video sent to us. We bought it right after we watched the tape and couldn't be happier! The first time we saw SSR was when we stayed there and it was awesome!

I bought sight unseen, but I bought at VWL and I had stayed at WL many times.

When I started to think about buying (again, the first time was in 1992) my guide of course pushed SSR. I wouldn't have bought there sight unseen, but when I realized I could buy resale, there was no doubt that VWL was for me, closely followed by BWV.

Disney does sell points at all of the resorts. But other than SSR they have to exercise a ROFR when a member sells a contract to have points to sell. My sense is that current members looking to add on are the main purchasers at the sold out resorts.

There are three main point charts for the WDW DVC resorts.

OKW has the lowest point requirements

SSR is next.

BWV, VWL and BCV are the highest (note that there is a BWV standard view that has lower point requirements -- and I believe are very well received by members).

My suggestion is that you call The Timeshare Store. They have a great inventory of contracts members want to sell. You will pay less, usually, then buying direct from Disney. Their folks really understand the product and are quite happy to answer questions.

As to your first question -- buying site unseen -- you can "see" the resorts on any number of web-sites. The key questions, I believe, are

Is DVC a good fit for how you vacation?

Is DVC a good fit for your family's budget?

Keep asking questions :)
