Today, once we get a hold of our guide, we should be buying into dvc. we were going to get 150 points at SS, but since i read the new min may be 160 points at akl, im wondering if we should just buy in now for 160 points??

we are getting the $10 per point discount that is being offered, so im wondering if we should just get a few more?

what do you think?

In order to get 1 one br else where ( name escapes me now) but properties other than Disney, it was 160 pts during peak season. That being said, 160 was not enough for us and so we are going to be adding on another 50.

I would buy as many as I could reasonably afford.

We started at 200 which we thought would be plenty :rotfl:

Did one add on & are going to do another one in '08.

You very quickly can become addicted... especially once you have an AP... and you catch a Ding... long weekend here we come!

When I first purchased, I purchased 160 but I should have purchased more. I like to stay in 1-bedroom units and hate staying in hotel rooms (studios) unless I have too. I had thought about banking and borrowing but in the end, I ended up purchasing additional points so that I could stay in a 1-bedroom during the most likely times that I would take a vacation on Disney property (for me, the week before Xmas). I would recommend determining what your needs and desires are, and from there, determine the number of points that work best for you. You may wish to look at banking and borrowing if you don't plan to be on Disney property every year.

I would take the 160 pts....
although i usually think more is betta:thumbsup2

You need 160 pts to trade out...sounds like a good enough reason:goodvibes

DH and I bought 220 point at SSR 1 week in 2 bedroom at cheap season I think. Then we caught the add on bug and added another 100 points now at 320 plenty for the 2 of us. Or is it?:thumbsup2

Think..."addonitis".....

..it'll be 10 less points you'll buy later...and cheaper!!

There's only one real answer to this question. Do you need the extra 10 points?

I'm assuming you did your homework and found out what 150 points could get you at SSR. I'm also assuming that if you needed more points than that for your family, you would have set your sights on a higher point total.

If you want the points, can afford them, and know what additional benefit they'll bring, then go ahead.

But don't buy an extra 10 points just because Disney is raising the minimum after you buy in.

Good luck in your decision. But just realize that coming to this board to ask if you should buy more points is like asking a choc-aholic if it's a good idea to eat some more brownies! :)

I bought 150 and got a good price. I want to wait for anything new to add on. 150 is working great for us.:cool1:

You will be the only one who can answer that question. Look at the point charts and decide what size unit, the resort, Time of year, and the length of time you are most likely to want. Figure out the number of points needed for that, and it should help you buy the appropriate points for you. We purchased 230 to begin with, but quickly found it wasn't quite enough (we didn't do our homework too well), so we added on an additional 150 shortly afterward.

We just bought in Dec. and although we could've gotten by with the minimum we knew it wouldn't get any cheaper to add-on later so we went for as many pts. as we could from the beginning. We also knew that we would want to trade out into other collections every so often and wanted enough pts. to have the flexibility to be able to do that w/o too much of the banking & borrowing. You currently need 160 pts. minimum to trade into I.I. for a week and that's likely to go up... IMO if you think you'll ever want to trade out you should think about going as high as you can afford to go while you have a good deal to do it... It's a big purchase - but think about different scenarios and how you might want to use your pts. down the road & then evaluate if you can afford the extra $910 now or not. Good luck!! :thumbsup2

Personally, I wouldn't buy 160 points. I don't see why Disney's increasing the number of points in the future should change what you buy.

If you do want to get more than 150, I'd get a 150 base contract and then an add-on. I think the smallest add-on you for which you could get the discounted price is 25.

I see on another thread just started by you that you bought 160 points. Very exciting, and congratulations on your decision. :thumbsup2

I agree. It is easy to add on and no additional closing costs. You may decide it is better to addon a smaller contract at a different resort to give you more booking flexibility by banking and borrowing points. For instance you could add on 40 points at AKV, the have 120 points every three years to gaurantee you a stay at that resort sometimes.
