Should I buy Disney Insurance?

Anyone buying the Disney Insurance? We are thinking about it but it is hard to find info on it. We are concerned about going during Hurricane season and also we are not taking our kids and what if one of them is hurt or hospitalized before we go. I know we are being paranoid but is Disney insurance better than insurance from our TA?

so the insurance IS Disney insurance. The nice thing is, it covers everything including my flights, which I didn't even book through her!

I've never had to use the insurance, so I don't know if it's true or not, but my thought was that if something went wrong while we were on the trip it might be easier to deal with because it is Disney insurance. As in, hopefully there'd be someone there on-site to help with the issue!

We bought it too. My sister and I are the only children of a widowed mother (that's the first time I refer to her as a "widow" - it seems weird to see it in writing), we want to make sure if something happens to her (God forbid!) that our trip is covered. Also, since we live in hurricane territory, we didn't want to take any chances. It's really not a lot to pay considering all the other insurance you have to have and most times never use.

We did not take it last year for our first WDW vacation.... but decided to take it this year. It was actually a small price to pay for the protection you get... We are driving down so I was concerned with the possibility of any road problems... you never know.

If we are talking about the same insurance (sold by Disney Travel). The insurance is through National Union Fire Insurance Company and non-insurance related items are through Travel Guard. All this information is on the insurance flyer. Disney may sell it, but they have nothing to do with it past that.

Travel Guard through Disney is $66.95/adult in the party and does cover the flights, cancellation penalties, trip interruption, baggage delay and loss, and medical mishaps. Small price to pay especially if you have kids and with all the recent airline cancellations and whatnot

My family is a family full of insurance agents for State Farm. Buying trip insurance is just another cost I figure in. I was programmed to think this way when I married into this family I guess. Since I am spending around $7000 on this trip, another $200 seemed like a drop in the bucket for the peace of mind it gives me. JMHO

Yes, buy the insurance. Even if you don't get it through Disney, it is a small price to pay if the unexpected happens. Bad stuff can happen on vacations. What if someone got pnemonia or something 2 days before you left? Or fell and broke their leg? You'd be kicking yourself if something happened and you had no insurance. You wouldn't drive your car uninsured, right? Why go on an expensive vacation uninsured? It's just not smart!

We are cruising in Sept. and did last year too because of lower prices. We opted to go with insurance for both trips but not thru Disney. We were able to find an equal plan for less money. Make sure you are comparing apples to apples in the coverage but shop around. You may be able to get the same coverage for less money. We did.

I just wanted to add that I purchased insurance through Disney when I booked my MYW w/ Dining package in November.

In March I changed resorts. I was told (after I made the change) that I lost the insurance because I made a change to the original reservation and the insurance is non-refundable and apparently non transferable. :sad2:

So now I'm out $133 and I no longer have insurance. :scared1:

Wow! I would have thought you were covered for those dates not a specific location. It would have been nice if you were informed of this when you purchased.

We went thru Travel Insured Int. which we purchased thru USAA. It was $35/pp for our cruise. I think Disneys was a lot more.

Thanks for all your help and advice. I spoke to my TA to find further info and she mentioned that the most you could lose with Disney is $200. You lose $200 if you cancel from 0-5 days till arrival. $100 for 16-44 days. So we would lose $200 if we cancel sooner than 5 days and the insurance for 2 of us would cost $133.90. Pretty close if you ask me. Also we booked our flight with SW and they give you SW credit if you cancel a flight. So I figure for the possibility of us canceling, the most we could lose is $200 and if we don't cancel we pay nothing, I may just not buy insurance. We already have medical in the states through private insurance so all we really need is cancellation insurance. Not really sure if this is what we should do??? Any ideas???:confused3

For me, it depends on what time of year. June starts hurricane season. We are cruising in Sept. There was no question for us; not because we thought there was chance we would cancel but because of the weather risk. It also depends on the cost of the trip. If I was spending the amount that some people do for the deluxe resorts for a week, you bet I would have insurance.
