i was thinking of buying DS (6) and my boyfriend a playstation 2 for christmas. what do you think? i know they both want one. i have been putting it off because we have a playstation already. but my son is not interested in any toys. he likes to play games (video, computer and board games), watch cartoons and read. he has a room full of toys that he never plays with. at this point it really is starting to look like a total waste of money buying him toys. he doesnt even ask for them in the store!
i was thinking the playstation 2, some games and some books for christmas. and of course disney dollars for the stocking!
for my boyfriend~ the playstation 2, some games for him and he wants an electric guitar.
so what do you think? honest opinions please.

It depends on what kinds of games he likes. Is he more into racing and sports games? If so, then PS2 would be a good choice.:D

If it's something he enjoys, I'd buy it. Me and DS (4yrs) have one. I like it because we didn't have a DVD player, so for the cost it was worth it. You can play all of the Playstation 1 games on it also (I have bought a lot of used PS1 games for DS to play). Also the Monsters Inc PS2 game is awesome!! I know what you mean about the toys too..I had to 'force" DS to play Legos with me the other night:rolleyes: He'd much rather be outside (it was raining) or reading or playing video games.

I bought the PS2 & haven't had an ounce of regret. :)

There are tons of games for the system (it has the most games of the latest batch of consoles), plus you can play your PS1 games too. Not to mention if your DVD player goes on the fritz you've got a backup with the PS2.

We've got a PS2 and I couldn't be happier with it! I'd say if your DS and boyfriend both want one, go for it!

I've been holding out for it to come down in price. 300 bucks is just outrageous but...if your DS wants one sounds like a super idea. I have my fingers crossed for them to budge on the price this Christmas.
We did get Gamecube and I do enjoy it but the lack of games available really stinks.

I'm thinking of getting it myself for the whole family as the "big" gift for Christmas. DS has a Nintendo 64 (an antique from what DS has told me), but he really likes the games for both Play Station, which he plays with his Grandfather at his house, and PS2. I've been waiting for it to come down in price a bit more, but I might just put it on lay-away next month.

They dropped the price to $199 in May. :)

Typically systems will drop once after being out for 6 months- 1 year. After that they won't drop again until the next round of video game systems, which won't be for another 3-4 years.

My 13 year old DD and my DH love the playstation2. Of all the games we have she loves "Portal Runner" and "Army Men".

I have on and I have to admit I use it more for the DVD player aspect than anything. I do play games on it, but ever since I got a new computer, I've been playing games on that. But still, a great entertainment consule and the games for it are great! :)

My dad says, that we always get One of every "Wave" of systems... (i.e) N64, PS, then PS2 and didnt get a gamecube or anything... I love it.. and guess what the next "Wave" is (well to my dad) It's PS2 Online! With Everquest 2, and me and my dad are tatoal everquest freaks, so you know we have to get it!!!
