Hello all! I read a good post about these Maya Wrap Sling and I am considering buying one. My DS will be 19 months and likes to ride in the stroller. That's just it- he likes to RIDE. When we stop to get in line for something and he has to come out I will have to have something for him. Looks like the sling is prteey good. I have a baby Bjorn carrier but I think he would be too big and not comfortable in it. He weighs 29 lbs. What are your experiences with this sling. Should I buy one? Our trip is in June, so I really have to make up my mind. What material do you have if you have one? Can't tell the fabrics too good on the website. Sorry so LONG..... thank you for any advice.

It's comfy to wear (i found it better then all the other carriers and I tried about 10 different ones) The best part of it is you can wear it in so many different ways.

We used ours for WDW when we took DS at 18 months. I also used it everywhere, he preferred it to the stroller so it made life much easier, and it weighs almost nothing to carry if he decides not to be in it.

I used one at WDW last June. I was very happy with it in spite of the fact that I got it only a few days before the trip and did not have many oppportunities to practice with it before we left. I thought it was very comfy and gave me alot of flexibility in how I carried my DD. The big pocket came in handy, too. I recommend calling to place your order because the CS people are very helpful. I was also undecided about which fabric and the lady who took my order helped me to pick the one that would be the coolest. It was nice to be able to look at the pix on the website and discuss it with her at the same time. She also helped me figure out what size I needed. I've been very happy with mine and plan to use it at Disney again in July.

I got mine about 2 weeks ago after reading how great they are on this board.

Our DD ( 6 months) loves the bjorn so at first she was a bit squirmy in the mayawrap.

But now, after some practice for us both, she likes both types of carriers. The mayawrap is definitely less bulky.

I plan to take both of them with us on the trip.

At 5'3" I found that most of them were way too big for us to use. So if your short like me check out that possiblity.

I never had a Maya, but I've seen them and they look wonderful. I used (and wore out) several Sling Ezees from Parenting Concepts. I used them for each of my DDs from birth until they were well over 3yo.

If you're planning on using any sling at WDW, be sure to get it well ahead of time, really learn how to use it, and get your child used to it. I'd also recommend getting someone who has used slings before to show you different ways of using it. The little book I got with mine was useless. I needed one-on-one coaching!

there is no way you could use a baby bjorn with a 19 month old - he will be way too big.

a maja wrap is good, especially if he will be up and down - or I have an Ergo - http://www.ergobabycarrier.com/ which is fantastic, but it's not really an in and out kind of sling, you would probably want to put him in and leave him there for a while.

I have only just got it, but I carried by 20 lb daughter all day in in (on my front) and it was brilliant

check out www.peppermint.com for loads of sling options

I used the maya wrap pouch for my DD 15 mos, in December 2003. It was great to be able to pop her in the pouch in order to stand in line.

I also used the pouch for our connecting flight instead of having the stroller brought up for us. When she wanted to run around I let her down and when it was time to board I scooped her up and had 2 free hands to haul the carry on !

My pouch is adjustable with zippers so that a taller person can carry also ;) .

The fabric is a light weight denim, it is very soft.

I've posted often about how much I love my MayaWrap sling. DD is 15 months, 20+pounds. We go to WDW every month (just got back yesterday) and I carry her in the sling most of the time while we are there. If I get tired, DH carries her in the sling, or we put her in the stroller.

At 5'3" I found that most of them were way too big for us to use.
They come in different sizes. I'm 5'1", so I bought the small size, but DH is a full foot taller than I am, and over 100 pounds heavier, and he can use it, too. The only difference will be how much tail is hanging down off the rings.
The little book I got with mine was useless. I needed one-on-one coaching!
Personal coaching is great (La Leche League meetings are great for this), but the MayaWraps come with an instructional video/dvd that walks you through it. It's not hard to learn, but it isn't intuitive, so you really do need the walk through and some practice so you can use it properly.

Another great thing about them is that they are so versatile. We use it as a light blanket all the time. We also use it to drape over the stroller for a sunshade when DD naps in the stroller. We've even used the tail to wipe off wet seats on the tram, rides, etc.

Here's a link to a picture of DH wearing the sling (although he doesn't have it on correctly! We had started to take her out, when I decided I wanted to take a picture, so she's just kind of hanging there  ) DH with sling

Here's one of me from Thanksgiving. (You can't see in the picture, but the end of the tail comes down to my upper thigh.) me, with DD in sling
