Should I Bring Snacks

Hi, I have looked into getting groceries delivered to resort but was wondering what anyone thinks about bringing snacks in my suitcase. We are flying with Thompson and I will be way below weight limit on way out to save room for shopping and souvenirs. I have 3 boys who eat constantly as all going through growth spurts, aged 6, 12 and 16. Was thinking of pepperami, cheese strings and cereal bars. Would this cause me any trouble at Sanford airport. I would declare everything and have it all in one case for easy viewing. Never been to America so any help please. x

I can't imagine Pepperami and Cheese Strings will be allowed (meat and dairy) but cereal bars should be OK. I can honestly say, other than while at the parks, we hardly ever snack at Disney -I'm never hungry enough.

to be honest it's never worth taking even allowed food into the USA. If you get pulled over by customs even if it's something ok and declared it takes ages. Milk and meat products are definitely banned as are nut and grain products. When dd was 20 months on our first visit we didn't realise and declared baby milk (the ready made follow on milk in a carton) for the first night as it was her bedtime comfort. Luckily we read the declaration properly and threw it away on the plane. Seen lots of people pulled over though. The dog is very good and always smells the bag we have stored food on for the flight but again we always destroy it before arrival :)

I agree with this - and if you do take ANY food in make sure you tick yes on the customs form and declare it even if it's allowed.

We declared our toddlers snacks and it was really quick just an extra scan and a quick show of them. The dog got really excited at one point when the officer was going through our bag, we were like 'oh know what have we forgotten?' and out came the squeaky Sophie teether giraffe. The dog was beyond excited thinking it was a toy for him.

:lmao: That is precious!!

I order our snacks and water from amazon.com about 5 days before we leave. It's always waiting for us when we check in. DD is a grazer and likes to snack. It is nice too have the box in the room and leave her to it. I don't mess with snacks (she's old enough) and it's up to her to pack her bag and put in anything she might want. Not only does it save us worrying about declaring anything, but she prefers the novelty of things she can't get at home.

We take cereal bars and the multipack of cereals.

Only problem we have had was with washing powder. Security wanted to know why we had so much gravy!!

Eh? Gravy? Not sure how that equates :lmao:.

I am thinking of taking some washing powder tablet things if we do stay at OKW - might do a bit of washing half way through trip to ensure I don't come back with 4 full cases of washing :scared1:. I could buy some when we get there but not sure. I think I have decided against taking any snacks at all, it just seems a hassle and I'm sure my children would like the novelty of getting 'rubbish' snacks from the supermarkets out there ;).

Pinkgirl, the gravy :rotfl2::rotfl:

Have you ever tried American gravy? The gunk they put on their biscuits? If not, when you see it, it will all make sense! ;)

I take washing powder tablets. You can buy small boxes of 10 if you look at places like Superdrug and the like. I find it so much easier and I don't have to try measure stuff. I try go for a 2 in 1 as the machines are those fabulous top loaders, but you have to add the fabric conditioner separately and I can't be bothered to have to go back and check. You can buy there if you prefer. They have vending machines in the laundries and for you at OKW you could get some at the resort shop :)

Glad I jumped on this thread, we are getting some groceries delivered from a local company, i wont hyper link / name them as that's not allowed right?

We made up a list of things for having at our accommodation including, beer for me :), bottles of water, juice, cereal bars, cookies, lays crisps ::yes::, yoghurts to name a few.

me and mrs badger spoke about taking washing powder but feared we would get pulled for having a bag of white powder in our suitcases :rotfl2: We are definitely doing washing / laundry while away as we are including two rest/resort days during our 14 day trip so I think we will just pick up stuff at the laundry facilities over there.

Here's a quick question, what is the tea like? mrs badger cant function without a good cup of tea and generally has about 5 cups a day! should we take our own? will tea bags be allowed? Random question I know! :goodvibes

:thumbsup2

All of Disney serve the twinings bags of tea. You can get other brands in the supermarkets.

I always take my tetley, just a small bag unopened in original packaging. I even take to Denny's etc I can't stand that Lipton stuff. May have even taken hot chocolate sachets last year too.

Tea bags are fine - we usually take around 1000 PG Tips with us for friends who live there :thumbsup2

LOL. It was the X-ray machine. My 4 little bags of washing powder must have looked like bags of gravy granules.

The tea is disgusting....take your own. They do not know good tea! The tea is generally decaf and if its not is awful anyway.:rotfl:

:rotfl: I remember making DD a cup of tea in her resort mug when she was 6. She likes her cuppa, that kid. I gave it to her and she took a sip, leaned back from the table and said "OH!!! Glaring at me as though I was playing a practical joke, "Did you even put a teabag in here?" :rotfl: Apparently it tasted like "nothing".

I think we will take our own teabags just in case, would that need to be declared at customs?

Yes. If it goes in your mouth, declare it. They will ask what you have at passport control because you would have checked the box that says food (and insects!) and you just tell them teabags, and anything else if you have other items too.

Garden grocer all ordered. Snacks, cereal, water, crisps, fruit and pop. FYI if you order and pay 30 days before delivery you get a discount. You can always add anything you have forgotten later. Delivery charge is $14.
What's the coffee like, not a big tea drinker and I don't like my coffee fancy just milk n sugar. Should I bring some good old nescafe for the room as I need a fix in the morning. Xx
