Tomorrow is my granddaughter's "moving up" ceremony - the new name for Kindergarten Graduation..

Should I get her a gift? If so, any ideas?

And lastly, should I take it with me tomorrow to the school?

Obviously this is my first experience with this..

Yes, get her something fun. Something she wouldn't expect to get, like a new toy or something that she might get for Christmas. Kids love toys anytime of the year.

If it's little you could bring it with you, if it's big, have her open it at home.

And congratulations to the New First Grader!!!:Pinkbounc

You all are much more interesting than me! I was just going to say a book! Mostly because I like getting them!

Well congrats to the little one!

My daughter has hers on Thursday :) I wouldn't expect my parents to get her a gift. They'll probably just take her to Baskin Robbins afterwards

But if you want to get a gift, more power to ya! At the age of 5/6, I'd say something inexpensive. My daughter would be as excited to get a My Little Pony as she would be to get a new computer... which is good because her birthday is coming up and I can't afford a new computer! ;)

First I was thinking of flowers (not much fun though) - then I was thinking sentimental/remembrance (again, not much fun though) and lastly I was thinking something really neat for up to the lake -I think she'd like that! ::yes::

So this is what we do up there:

Swimming
Boating
Jet Skiing
Fishing
Frog hunts
Bug hunts
Campfires and sing alongs
Cook-outs

She enjoys nature and the outdoors a great deal..

Any good suggestions based on the above?

Thanks!

awww congrats to your granddaughter! :) I think you should get here something fun! Maybe a special toy that she's always wanted. Kids always love toys! :daisy: Maybe tell her you have a surprise for her and then give it to her when she gets home after the ceremony. Kids love the word "surprise"! :Pinkbounc

I would definitely bring a little something. :) A book is a great idea as the pp said!! It will be something she can keep forever, a keepsake. Make sure you put the date in it! (I'm big on dating things!)

By all means ::yes:: !!!!

Congrats!! My little GD just graduated from preschool.
She loves the dollar store, so I took a bag of goodies from there. She was thrilled! Afterwards we all went to lunch to celebrate. Yes, most guests brought their gifts into the room...goodie bags, flowers, stuffed animals, etc. Her pre school has quite the celebration! Have fun!

Awwwww...she's adorable!!

They grow up toooooooooooo fast.. :(

Guess I'll head out later and see what I can find..

How about the Dr. Suess book "Oh the Places You Will Go" ( I think that is the title)

It is a great book, perfect for "graduation" type gifts. I gave one to my nephew and my son when they graduated highschool.

Thank you C.Ann! Bethany is one of 10 grands, ages 7 mos. thru 16!!!!!::yes:: She is my only GD on the east coast. I have her 2 days a week and I don't have to tell you what a joy she is...do I ?? ;)

Have fun at graduation, this is just the kind of good distraction you need Grandma. :D
Bring your tissues!!

My DD just graduated from Nursery School, too! We have a camp and I got her a (red/blue) backpack filled with outdoor toys (It came all together already done up from JCPEnney's) It had jump rope, balls, chalk, a suction ball with catchers and a scoop catchers with balls and some other things. She LOVED IT!!! IT was only around $9 but seemed worth MORE!!!

My daughter had her ceremony last week. Several individuals brought flowers. My MIL and FIL gave DD $10. My Dad has me pick up a gift, which is a dress DD wanted. DH and I did not give her a gift....really didn't think of it since we bought her a new dress for the ceremony.

I would, but make it something small and simple. Flowers is a good idea, or how about a small little bucket with some candy in it. No need to go all out though!

DD had her 'program' about 2 weeks ago and the school does NOT call it graduation either. This way I also felt free to invite my whole extended family (Mom, Dad, 2 brothers, SIL, niece & nephew) and told them NO graduation, no gifts, just a kindergarten program. They ALL came! :sunny: My mother, the forever Gramma, brought a kid size necklace, with DD's birthstone in a heart shape for DD anyway. It is really precious, her first birthstone gift of any kind. Heck, I know what month she was born and the color of her birthstone, but I've never bought anything like that for her. :o We didn't give her anything actually.

So, maybe something personal along those lines?

Congrats to your DGD!! It IS a wonderful (yet sad) time, isn't it? ;)
