Should I book one way on Song for now?

We are going to Disney during Thanksgiving. The price going out of Newark is pretty reasonable, but the return price is crazy (over $300 one way) Do you think I should book the flight going out of Newark now? I'm hoping the return flight drops in price at some point, but I scared the the flight going out could rise. Since Song doesn't give you any discount for a round trip do you think its wise for me to at least get the first part of our flight booked. I can see on the Song website that all the flights going out of Orlando for the return trip are pretty much empty so its not like we won't be able to get a flight if I wait to book it.

On the Delta/Song website try the option for MORE SEARCH OPTIONS. Plug in leaving from EWR to MCO, and then for the return try MCO to LGA or JFK. You might get a better price!::yes::

Hi YankeeMom, I say yes, if the one way to MCO is a good rate then buy only one way and look for your return flight through other airlines. I just purchased a one way ticket from LGA to MCO on AA airlines for $77.60 tax included per person for Spring break 2004 (I never thought that time frame would be that inexpensive). I had been checking the rates every morning and every night and between that time the rates would change. So, keep checking, keep checking and keep checking.

Now, if only I could get that same rate returning!:teeth:

Good Luck!

Wow, that 's a great price.

I'm having a hard time finding good airfare for our Easter trip. I'm checking Jetblue, Airtran, Song and Spirit. I'm hoping to get a 1:00 flight out of LGA or JFK on April 2 and a late flight back on the 13th. I don't mind fly one airline down and another back.

If prices don't come down enough, we'll just take the train down and airtran back. They have a return filght at 5:55pm for $78 each. I really want Jetblue's 8:45pm flight, but it's $194 each.

I'd go on and book the one way ticket now and keep checking for the other.

Well, after reading this thread, I am now brave enough to book one way from LGA to MCO on Song for $87.60. I have been checking all possible combinations from LGA and JFK to MCO for July 5-11 , on JetBlue, Song, and Spirit.

Here's my reasoning:
Spirit has the best fare, at $155.20 RT including taxes, but the earliest flight leaves at 8 AM, and so we won't get to MCO until almost 11, then to AKL by 12. That's too late for us, half the day is gone. Also, I just don't feel 100% about Spirit. I know they have a great safety record, but it's the 2-aisle-3 that bothers me. My nerves need at least a 3-aisle-3. So Spirit is out.

jetBlue costs way too much for my dates, $134 going and $154 returning, so they're out.

Song out of JFK is $102 each way, which isn't horrible, but I know I could do better. Also, the earliest Song out of JFK is at 8, and I'd prefer an earlier flight. Also, front seats on that flight out are all booked, so that's another negative. The late return flight has lots of open front seats, but I don't want to pay $102.

And so, I am 99% sure that as soon as I finish typing all this, I'm going to book us on Song out of LGA, great seats, great time out at 6ish, and decent price. I live in Brooklyn, 10 minutes from JFK, and LGA is 20 minutes away, so either airport is fine.

And then I'll keep watching for our return flight. I'll keep my fingers crossed that the fares go down on jetBlue or Song for our return flight. The flight I want is the 8:30 PM MCO to LGA, but it's $122 right now. It'll get lower! And I'll keep checking the seat charts to see how the front rows are doing.

So please wish me luck. I have always bought RTs, but Song and jetBlue operate on one-way fares anyway, so it should be ok. I know I'm making an awfully big deal about all this, but my Disney planning obsession is to blame!

Keep in mind that booking one way tickets will sometimes triger an alert at the airline. You will be subject to the extra security search at the airport. It's not a big deal but does take more time.

Safetymom, I thought of that, but as long as they let me through, they can search me all they want LOL! My kids said they hope they get searched so they have something cool to tell their friends!

I'll just make sure I get to the airport with plenty of time to spare.

Aisling, you have a good attitude. I have been in line with those that had very bad attitudes when it came time for the extra screening.

I got our ticket to MCO Wednesday on Airtran. We're taking the last flight out of LGA at 7:00 gets to MCO at 12:06am. The tickets were only $79 each. The next morning they were $164 each.

Now I'm waiting for Jetblue or Song to lower their return rates. Right now Jetblue's 8:55pm flight is $194 each, down from $224. Song has an 8:05pm for $202. Airtran has a 6:55pm for $79, much to early for us. I hope I'll be able to get the flight I want for $100 or less. Since we're returning the Tuesday after Easter, I think I'll have to pay more, or take the early flight with Airtran.

I'm sure I'll get picked for the extra security search.::yes:: Even when I'm not the one flying I have trouble with security at LGA. My son (12) goes to NC to visit his dad often. Since he travels alone they allow me to go with him to the departure gates. Each and everytime I have to do the remove your shoe, and wand under the shirt deal. My son gets a HUGE kick out of this. It bugs me a little, but I never let it show.
