Should I blow the points on a MK view?

Tomorrow morning I plan to book a 2-bedroom at BLT for a special family trip in August at a cost of nearly two years worth of points. I really want a nice Magic Kingdom view but worry about spending that many points when I'm seeing so many photos of Magic Kingdom views that feature monorail tracks, parking lots, and the side of the Contemporary. Seeing the top of the castle across a sea of parked cars doesn't do it for me--I want a high enough floor to have a real view. From what I've seen, any view that's higher than the monorail line seems to be what I'd consider to be a good MK view. Any feel for what percentage of MK views are actually "good" views? How have they been about moving people to higher floors? I'm thinking maybe I'd be better off booking a lake view.

A high floor view is only a request and there isn't very many of them. There have been a few reports of resorts charging a fee if you request a room change after you check in so watch out.

I don't know that I would chance it. Having to train your eye to look across the parking lot for the much coveted MK view does not sound fun. I would be very aware of it. Good luck on your decision. :goodvibes

While I do agree that some of the MK views that have been posted are less than stellar, there is always a chance that you will get one of those rooms. I think that Disney always tries to meet the requests of guests, but if everyone that is booked the same time as you puts in a request for a higher floor, someone is going to be put in those lower rooms (which is why, at some point, Disney may have to think about the classification of those rooms).

It sounds like you will be very disappointed if you don't get a higher room, so, if it were me, I would go with the LV.

We will always go SV or at most, LV. We were in a LV studio in August and had a view of the MK and the fireworks that I thought was beautiful. And I have also seen SV studios that have had pretty decent MK views. So, for the point savings, it is well worth the chance.

I will simply request an even #'d room facing the parking lot and hope that I get one of those.

Good luck!

We've only stayed in the CR once, and opted for a tower, MK view room to celebrate a special birthday. We're very glad we did it once (got a 10th floor room) ...... kept the curtains open to see the castle from the bed, and watched the fireworks several times from the room. Remember that the access road to the MK goes directly in front of the CR, and the parking lot is there. Every room in the 'front' of BLT will be facing the direction of the road and possibly the parking lot. We enjoy spending time on the balcony, and from our balcony on the 10th floor, we could hear the bus traffic.

It's a trade off. The view was very special, and we felt fortunate to be that high up. we just didn't look down, to see the parking lot and the busses. As I said, we're really glad we did it once, but probably will never spend the points on a MK view. But that's just us ..... some people never book anything larger than a studio or a standard view.

Good luck, and hope you have a fantastic trip!

Personally I'd just save the points and book a lake view. Unless you plan to spend a whole day sitting on that balcony... I would think the lake would be prettier and less of a risk... But then we don't spend that long in our villa. We are always either at the parks or at the pool.

I just got back from CR (not BLT) and had the MK view. Yes, the parking lot was there, but it didn't bother me a bit. In fact, I thought it was pleasant to sit out there after the fireworks and watch the ferry boats, monorails, and buses going about their routes. It made me stop and think about how many people WDW moves every single day, and it was cool to watch. But yes, we could definitely see the parking lot, even on the 11th floor, so if that really bugs you I'd go with the lake view.

As I have reviewed a lot of the opinions since BLT has opened, I appear to be in the minority. I would always go with an MK view. We were fortunate enough to get the 11th floor for our stay, so maybe I'm spoiled. While the parking lot is certainly in view:

so is Bay Lake, GF,Poly, boats, monorails, etc.

We do tend to spend less time in the parks than we used to, especially in the mornings, so the view is important to us. If I wasn't getting an MK view, I'd rather do an SV at AKV for less points than an LV at BLT.
