Should I be worried?

We received the title documentation two weeks ago. I've signed and sent the funds to escrow. The sellers have still not signed. Is it typical for sellers to move this much slower than buyers on a resale?

I just waited 10 days for the sellers to return the signed contract on a resale, and am now into day 17 waiting for them to return the closing docs (although the last 2 days are the result of the blizzard in the Midwest). Best guess is I'll get to close sometime next week.

In my experience the sellers have to get their documents notarized and send in the physical copies, which can take longer. Some people just have trouble turning in their homework on time...
In those situations I've asked the title company rep to reach out to the sellers and get them moving.

I’ve also asked the title company and the selling company to reach out to my sellers when they took a long time. It’s frustrating, though.

My biggest issue on this one was the total lack of communication. I get that life happens and we are still living in somewhat challenging times, but I also expect the common and decent courtesy of a response. They were radio silent, even to the sales and escrow agents, for almost two weeks.

That is so irritating. And true...even in extenuating circumstances it's easy and basic courtesy to spend a minute to send an email.

The one time I did resale the sellers were getting divorced unknown to me when I made my deposit and sent my papers - took them over a month to send in their paperwork even though I was calling constantly - I feel that should have been disclosed since it had such an impact on slowing the process - in the end I received my points but it took months and turned DH against resale - Disney prices are making him change his mind Haa has

I had one last year that I finally walked away from. One reason I was given for the delay in returning the contract was that the seller's wife had passed away, which is a terrible, terrible tragedy by anyone's definition and one you'd be a ghoul not to give some space on. Except, it turns out that she died in 2017.

It can happen because if needing to find a notary or possibly have funds to close because they are upside down.

It took me a while once but I do agree there is no excuse why they don’t let the agents know.

I kept them in the loop as to why it would take a few weeks.

I’ve bought 3 resale contracts & the longest was the first which had divorcing sellers (a fact not disclosed to me until I started asking why they hadn’t sent their closing docs back.) I finally pointed out we were fast approaching the closing date (it’s in your documents) & if we didn’t close by that date I was walking which got the deal done, albeit too late to salvage a years worth of unbanked points.

I've already lost almost a full cache of banked points. But honestly, I didn't buy the contract with the expectation of getting to use those. It was far too close to the Feb use year.

Glad to know that it is not just me. And good recommendations on reaching out to the broker and the title company to see if they can push it along.

If it’s still within the closing dated period, I wouldn’t worry. Mine took three weeks after payment and closed by the date listed.
