Should I be worried?

We are heading to DL on Sunday, do you think the Anaheim violence will worsen?

I'm sure you'll be just fine. Anaheim has always been a major exception in SoCal as far as gangs and violence goes, and it is bound to see outbreaks every now and then. Just play it smart and you should be fine. The area around Disneyland is super safe, so stick to that area, and you should be fine. All cities of this size have issues like this, and the only reason it's news in Anaheim is that it has been so freakishly rare in the past.
Have a great trip! I'm sure you'll have a fabulous time, and if you stay close to Disney property, you probably won't even notice that anything is different.

Good advice. I agree that visitors to the parks will not see anything different at all. Day or night.

There has been quite a lot of activity in the news recently and only some of it has made national headlines. More importantly, the issues they are experiencing do not affect the parks or tourism in general. Most of the issues are confined to a couple of residential areas.

No matter where you live or vacation there is a chance of violence. It's up to you to decide how to let it affect you. I've never felt unsafe in Anaheim and even with the "protests" I'm sure that wouldn't change. :) Enjoy your vacation!

I think the protests will die down now that the US Attorney has decided to review the case. I think if the AG comes back not finding fault with Anaheim Police, then protests will begin again and escalate quickly.

I agree with the advice already given. Just be aware of your surroundings and you should be fine. Have a great trip!

I live just outside Portland Oregon and can only say this is business as usual for our area. There are areas of Portland I stay away from and I would do the same with areas of Anaheim.

One thing we have learned around here is to not wear all red or all blue as this is one of the "gang" things.

You will be fine as long as you are aware of your surroundings and stay around the parks.

Have a GREAT WEEKEND. pixiedust:

We just got home today and really didn't feel unsafe. We saw the news coverage, but around DLR is was business as usual.

Anaheim is a big city, you will be safe if you stay around the DLR. Just stay away from the police/city hall area. They have quite a big 'undesirable'/criminal population, that is what this is all about.

Years ago we stayed budget at the Red Roof Inn (it was horrible at that time, really ghetto). In the middle of the night a large fight erupted in the parking lot and the police were quick to respond and there was even a helicopter flying over head with spotlights. After that we decided to always stay moderate.
Crime and violence happen everywhere. Just use common sense.

We are still here and I feel safe enough. I keep tabs on the news to stay informed, but all has been business as usual on Harbor and in DLR. I wouldn't cancel my plans because of it. I would, however, keep to the resort area and try to stay in south part right around DLR. But my dad told me that years ago when DH and I first started to plan our own DL trips. Yes, it does concern me but I'm not going to change anything at this point.

Tonight was the first night there weren't helicopters circling near the park and I read that the streets are pretty quiet. We drove to Sonics for lunch this afternoon (north of the parks) and saw the businesses that has their windows smashed out. Other than the people cleaning up and boarding up the storefronts, there was nothing going on.

We're following coverage of the unrest closely but we definitely don't feel like things are dangerous, especially close to the parks.

I saw a few headlines about escalation of mobs vs police and immediately came to this thread. Stay safe everyone! Mickey and Walt will protect you :)

Thank you for posting this! I will be there Sunday as well and was worried about how it would affect the trip. :)
