Hi all! My wedding is quickly approaching on 11/16/07 at SBP. I am having an Escape wedding with about 16 ppl and I have nothing really planned yet. Of course my hotel and dinner reservations are booked along with the tickets for the Very Merry Christmas party after dinner on the night of my wedding but I haven't even started looking for a dress yet. Sometimes I get all these ideas in my head and I start stressing and then when it becomes too much I just shut down and stop planning. I've ordered the flower girl dress and know that I'm going w/black and pink for my colors. I also know some favors I want to get but I just have this really laid back kind of attitude toward it all. I can't wait to go but I just get overwhelmed really easily and shut down. I've come to the conclusion now that all the important stuff is done(hair appt, officiant, photographer) and that everything else will get done on my own time. September 1 I will start the process of getting my marriage license by mail...how did that go for everyone??

Jessica,
It is good that you have a good chunk of your larger stuff taken care of. But beware of the whole dress situation. I was not told that if I needed to order a dress it would take 6 months to get in. Luckily I was able to buy my wedding dress off the shelf, but my bridesmaids dresses I had to go with something different because the alfred angelo dresses I liked would take 6 months to get in! I only had about 3.5 month till my wedding. I ended up going through the bridal department on the Target website and got my BM dresses there. So if I were you I would at least start looking and get dresses on order because they recommend 2 dress fittings for the bride before the wedding. One a month before and one usually a week before the wedding! I hope that helps and Happy planning! I am jealous you are having a DFTW, but I am sure it will be BEAUTIFUL! :thumbsup2

I agree: you should definitely start looking for a dress as soon as possible. It would be a shame to find a "dream dress" and then not be able to get it because you don't have enough time. My dress took 6 months to come in after I ordered it, and then I needed 3 fitting appointments with the seamstress. It'll help if you're a pretty "typical" size and can buy off-the-rack more easily. Extra small or extra large is much more difficult... Good luck!!

I would seriously work on getting your dress. It can take some time to get in and to ba altered. The other small details can fall into place. Maybe make a list of things you still need to get done and purchase. Do one a week? Just try not to wait too long. The little details can be overwhelming in the end if you wait too long. I think a laid back approach is good though.

I would be out dress shopping later today if it was me. Can't get married with out the dress! A few of the places I have looked in to told me that they prefer ordering around a year in advance with 6 months minimum/average.

After you buy the dress, they need to order it, have it shipped to the shop, and then a few sets of alterations. GL in finding your dream dress :goodvibes

You shouldn't be freaking out, no. But like the others have said, you might want to organize those last few details into a timeline (like you've done with your marriage license) so that you WON'T be freaking out later!

Dress first!

Yes I do agree with all of you. I am going this weekend to look for dresses and hopefully I won't run into any problems. My friend bought her dress from Davids Bridal and she bought it right off the rack and they told her to take it home and come back a month before the wedding for alterations. Hopefully things will go that well for me. Thanks for the reassurance :)

Definitely get started looking for dresses. Mine is taking 4 months to come in. Don't count on being able to get one off the rack cause a lot of time those can be stained from all the people trying them on: make-up, sweat, etc. Good luck though!

Girl you sound JUST like me. I'm glad that I'm not the only one. I don't have a dress either, nor am I looking. I'm so bad....LOL.

I agree with going to look for a dress ASAP. I bought mine from the clearance rack at a bridal shop and only needed 2 fittings. Just be aware that there may be extra costs if you have to rush anything. All my bridesmaids ordered their dresses 3 months in advance and had to rush them. But, I did do the marriage license by mail and it worked out really well. Super easy!! I think you need less than 2 months to order it, but don't hold me to that!
