Should I apply?

I am considering applying for the college program. On of my friends, a fellow musical theatre major is doing it and thought it would be a good idea. I do too except I am worried about missing out on credits here at school. My academic plan is really strict. Is it a better plan to wait until the end of my senior year to apply? I would love some input.

I would see if you could ask your department about possibilities. Do they offer summer courses? If so maybe you could do summer courses and apply to just the Fall program? My sister waited to apply her last semester and I think she is happy with her decision as she doesn't have to worry about the program interfering with her graduation. Just don't wait too long like me. I was accepted for the Fall Advantage 2013 and I am finishing up graduate school. Had to ask my department about possibilities as well. Then again there is never a bad time to work for Disney.

My son is in the same boat as a theatre major...He applied anyway, and was accepted for Custodial...Not really thrilled as a theatre major, but he is going to do it. I do believe that there are a few courses in the program that are theatre focused, and he is going to talk with his advisor about doing and Independent Study while gone as well. So it can be done...He is also getting his 6 hour Summer Rep out of the way this summer. He is a freshman and will have 46 hours at end of summer, so it really isn't setting him back. He is supposed to audition for the BFA program next Spring, but the head of the dept told him if he is missing anything he will give him a waiver...so I'd say, apply...you never know...Just know that you may be offered Quick Service Food and Beverage or Custodial, etc...There really aren't any roles that are specifically theatre focused, but you can also audition for Character as part of the program...which is what he is doing. :)

I was in that same boat last year. I waited until this year (graduating with a BA for media in may), the only regret I will have is if I dont get accepted since I wont have another opportunity to do the CP. Although I would suggest putting some serious thought into your decision, not just that it will extend your academic progression but what you are actually doing. If you have a special other (bf/gf or w.e) you will be away from them for a long time (or even close friends), I know I will be leaving my gf and will miss her a ton but we will make it work. Even more importantly, make sure YOU want to do it (you said you want to because of your friend doing it, but didn't say whether you really want too).

Please take my advice and comment with a grain of salt, it is merely my 2 cents :figment:

Just honestly take into consideration where you're at right now, and where you'll be when you return. If you can seriously ask yourself that it's the right time in your College Career to go through with the Program, then that's what you need to do. If anything else, sit down with an Adviser and see if it's even plausible for you to take a Semester off to devote to the program.

You've got nothing to lose, and everything to gain!

Have a Magical Day! :smickey:
