Should I accept 11-->9 upgrade?

For our upcoming 4-day/Wonder, Disney has upgraded us from an 11 to a 9. Benefits obvious: ocean view, slightly larger room (2 bathrooms).

But....we had a 5th deck Cat 11, uncrowded (few rooms) hallway, near elevators. Now we are on deck 2, in a long row of rooms, midway between elevators. We were thinking we wouldn't be spending too much time at all in the room, that's why we didn't choose an ocean view room. We liked (in fact picked) our old location.

Should we worry about being on almost the lowest deck (long way to anything), in a crowded hallway (noise)? Or should we be thanking our good luck??

I received the same upgrade as you except I was offered cabin 2004 (very forward). Since I was travelling alone and didn't need extra space or the split bath I considered turning it down...decided to take it so I could check out the cabin size for the future when i may need or want that size cabin.

Anyway, I loved it on deck 2... easy access on and off the ship for shore excursions, one flight away from meals (I very rarely went to deck 9 for food except Palo) . I had no problems with elevators when I wanted to go topside to the pool or for sun. The ship seemed extremely stable at that level, not like the swaying you hear about in the higher decks.

In short, how often are you offered something for free. If you really can't stand it they should be able to move you up to your old cabin (or a similar one). They wouldn't be able to offer you the upgrade if the ship wasn't at less than capacity anyway.

When we went on our honeymoon cruise this past October, we had booked a Cat. 11 guarantee on deck 6. We wound up getting upgraded to a cat. 9 on deck 2. I was somewhat torn- I had sailed on deck 6 before and loved it. Anyway, the cruise came and went and I have a mixed opinion on our "honeymoon suite" on deck 2. We had a straight shot to the elevators, and unless we were up on 9 or 10, we generally just used the stairs. There wasn't much of a noise factor from other guests, but there was a humming noise in our room from beginning to end. I also was a little more sensitive to the motion of the ocean this time around. While the split bathrooms were nice to have, my husband and I are not of average size, and I felt the bathroom w/ the toilet was slightly cramped- but that's probably just me. ;)
As far as the view goes, it was great when we were leaving port, and it's a nice alarm clock (that sun is BRIGHT!!) but as the cruise goes on, the view kind of disappears because of sea salt. Be aware that this is all just my opinion..we weren't in the room much, and the honeymoon was absolutely wonderful (no pun intended) but if given the choice on the next trip, I'll probably turn down the upgrade- unless they're giving me a verandah!!

enjoy your trip!!

Thanks for the comments; we still can't decide. It seems a view almost at water level, with sea salt building on the glass, might seem very strange! And we were at the aft end of deck 5, looking forward to walking up to the secret verandah on deck 7. Oh well, life is pretty good if this is my only concern!!!

We are hoping (sort of) for an upgrade on the 2/7 Magic. We booked Cat 10, deck 7 GTY. I am wondering....if the ever elusive upgrade does happen when we get our docs (just booked this week) will we even have a choice. First cruise...no experience with the rules. Thanks!!!

you are not that close to water level I would say 50+ feet. Does anyone else have an opinion. We had 2146 after 5000 and were disappointed because of the proximity to the kids clubs. However now I would take 2146 over 5000 any day. At the back of the ship you are a quick elevator ride to almost everything (internet cafe, mickey pool, palo, beach blanket buffet, shutters, parrot cay, the beverage station and of course the mickey pool. Plus when you get off the boat you can get back on and go up one set of stairts to your room.

We have only ever stayed on Deck 2. We love it! As everyone said, close to the restraunts, don't have to rely on the elevators (and we know how the kids can get), and it was nice and quiet.

The portholes are great, too. There are no downsides to it.

Enjoy! Bon Voyage!

I feel slightly 'ungrateful' saying this, but if it were on a deck in a section of the ship I didn't care for, I would refuse it.

We are very picky about where we like our stateroom to be. We choose our stateroom number when making reservations for this very reason. We like to be midship -> forward on the port side (if we have a view). We don't like to be anywhere but decks 6 or above, either. I was on deck 5 last cruise and hated the location (even though it was forward). We spend a lot of time at Quiet Cove pool area and the spa (love the Rainforest) and despise using the elevators. Without getting into it too much more, I would rather have the category 11 in my favorite areas than have a 'better' room in an undesirable location.

We've only ever been on deck 2 and we really enjoy it. This time we are up front on deck 5 and I'm not sure how we'll like it.

BTW I'd take the upgrade in a second. I'm too used to natural sunshine in the mornings to wake up. The view is nice, especially if you're lucky enough to see the flying fish up close from your porthole.

We were upgraded from a guaranteed 11 to a Cat. 9 on Deck 2 on our last cruise and loved it. I wouldn't hesitate to be on Deck 2 again. We ended up booking an obstructed/secret verandah for the next cruise but wouldn't hesitate taking that upgrade. I don't think you'll regret it one iota.

Cheers,
Grumbo

I wouldnt hesitate to take it. Our first time we booked category 9 and deck 2, room 2522 to be exact, and it was a great location. Never was there any seasalt or anything obstructing the view on our huge porthole. The location was so wonderful that we booked the room next to it for our next time out, due to 2522 being booked already. We ended up with one of the surprise upgrades to category 6, and were not about to turn down a verandah. We were on deck 6, and I didnt notice any difference noise, motion, or otherwise in the decks. Given a chance to have a view vs. no window at all, I would most definitely take the upgrade.

I booked what I was comfortable with, and would have been happy with or without the upgrade we were granted.

Let us know what you decide on, and how it works out.::MinnieMo

I love having a view of the ocean, and also being as close to the water as possible, so I would take the upgrade. The only stateroom I would refuse is 2626, which was right above some type of cargo door. I found out the hard way just how early that ship docks! And the galley is above that stateroom, so you get noise from up there too.
We've also been under Rockin Bar D, and you could definitely hear the bass. But we were running around like maniacs on that trip, and we were so tired when we got back to our stateroom that it didn't keep us awake at all. We tend to keep late hours, so that sort of thing doesn't bother us. The problem with 2626 is that it would wake us up at an ungodly hour...I'd rather have the noise occurring when I'm going to sleep.
Many of the deck 2 rooms are nice and quiet. Having lots of other staterooms around does increase your chance of noisy neighbors, but that can happen anywhere on the ship (except my beloved 5650...being so far back, we've never had noisy neighbors in there yet).

OK - we'll do it! Sailing on the 25th, so we'll post back afterwards, but the big majority seems to say take it and run. Thanks for everyone's help.
