Let me preface this with "Yes I know that it was some of the busiest days of the year and took that into account
OK the environmental factors Universal couldn't control. So I let them off the hook with the thunderstorm's Saturday afternoon and evening. But this was my worst trip to IOA ever. Sunday we went to IOA and got there early enough and went directly to LC and the DD ride. No problem we got into the front row queue and was on the ride in less than 20 minutes. Ice first then fire, just they way it worked out. Had out ride went out the exit and back to the queue. Thats when it started to go bad and my children were witnessing conduct that I try to make sure they realize in wrong. Lets start with the line cutting, the slipping into the fast pass line after getting past the staff member with the scanner. Do I hold IOA responsible for unethical people? No but I do hold them responsible for not doing anything about it when I pointed out that the fast pass was being compromised on numerous attractions. My middle school age children were subject to hearing constant profanity, couples of many different ages lewdly groping each other. The movie kisses were annoying but bearable the genital groping wasn't. One couple in their late teens were actually in line with his arms around the girl. That would have been no problem but his hands were in here tank top with his hands on her breast. The employees seemed uncaring and unwilling to confront anyone? Is that policy? One went so far as to shrug his shoulders at me. It was hard for my children to understand why people acted that way and why we stood in long lines as we watch others cheating the system.
The normally friendly employees were conspicuous by their absence. The normally eatable food was cold and served by grouchy servers. The theming was more hit and miss than before. Some employees were enthusiastically trying to fit the theme while others sounded as if they were reluctantly reading from a script or just wanted you to get through the ride as fast as possible.
I have just finished typing my letter to Guest Services naming names of those who were shining stars and those who need to be parking tour buses somewhere and not interacting with people. Hope fully the name on the name tags, the attraction name and time of activity would be enough to identify the good as well as bad.
So yes there were many who tried their best to make the experience enjoyable, just not enough.
I watched someone take a face plant getting off Bluto's barges as we were getting on. There was no one helping people out of the ride as they exited. Even after the fall there was no one to help my family out of the ride other than me and of course the floor and boats were wet and moving. The person who got hurt waited about 20 minutes outside the ride before an employee in a blue shirt which I assumed was an EMT or something showed up and gave an ice pack.
I would have expected a little faster response from my experiences down the road.
Highlights of the trip? Yeah there were some good times, The hero's at Marvel Island were great interacting with the kids and adults in out group, the cast members at the hulk and Jurassic park area's were excellent. DD staff was mixed as well as Seuss Landing.
