Should Disney sell one-time points to members?

Disney (including all the different pieces under the corporate umbrella) has lots of points. Some they give away as sales incentives. Others get turned over to CRO.

Would it make sense for Disney to offer to let members buy a few points if they need extras for a vacation? Good for Disney, good for member, what am I missing?

In particular, I'd love to see the points that are currently turned over to CRO get sold to members instread, since we get so little value back from CRO.

It would be nice for us as members, but I think it would certainly cost Disney $$. Why rent 10 points to someone for $120 or so, when they can get full price for a room for the night?

After all, if I only needed 8 extra points for a night in a DVC studio OKW, that would be $100, but studios go for over $250.

Personally, I don't see how it is good for Disney at all. They would rather members purchase points outright.

The points that are "turned over to CRO" to sell were already used by members to book something in the Disney Collection, so they can't be used again. Points that have not yet been sold by DVC (such as SSR and AKV, plus others that were recovered from ROFR), are sold by CRO to either recover funds for DVC maintenance and operations or DVC sales.

The question is how good a job does CRO do of selling them. I've heard speculation that they don't do that great a job - that rooms sometimes go empty (or are discouted) because CRO can't sell them - especially at rack rate.

I'm wondering if Disney might not do better selling those rooms via points to members rather than sellnig them to the general public via CRO. Is there some price ($15/point? $20/point?) at which Disney does come out ahead, once you factor in the cost of unsold and discounted rooms and housekeeping costs.
