It seems to me that the amenities at DVC resorts available to members are not on an equal basis. If you stay at one DVC resort, you may use the amenities of another. However, depending on which DVC resort you stay at may determine which other amenities you allowed to use. Does this seem fair? I am interested in how others feel about this.

Of course they should. What if a BCV owner decides not to stay at BCV during a stay? What if a BWV owner stays at BCV, should they not be allowed to swim in the pool?

Do you mean if you are staying at BCV, or specifically BCV owners.

EDIT: never mind, I just reread things

Of course they should be able to! Keep in mind that pool hopping is only restricted for SAB, and not BCV (subject to time of year restrictions that apply to all pools, DVC members can hop to the new BCV pool, just not to Stormalong Bay). All that happens with SAB is that because the guest is staying at BCV they get to use the amenities of SAB--keep in mind that technically SAB is a BC pool not a BCV pool (in the strictest definition of terms).

Did you mean, "I couldn't care less"? :)

The title of your thread is different that the topic of your poll. But if you really want to know, "Should DVC members staying at BCV be allowed to pool hop at other DVC resort pools?" then I say yes, but they probably won't want to!

But should BCV owners be allowed to pool hop? of course!

It is a little disturbing to me that they took away SAB pool hopping. I know we'll be DVC members sooner, rather than later, so I am concerned about what else they will take away from the members.

I see this a simple supply and demand. The available SAB pool resources cannot comfortably handle excessive supply, so some reasonable limitations were added. Any DVC member can stay at BCV within the 7 month window. There are also some 40 pools, many available for pool hopping. Should a DVC member staying at BCV be allowed to take a break in the middle of the day from the Magic Kindom and stop in to the Contemporary or Polly pool for a dip consistent with other DVC member priviledges? I cannot see any good reason why not.

Frankly, this poll seems like a sour grapes response to the new previously announced, "we all knew it was coming" SAB pool restrictions. Perhaps more constructuve solutions can be to build a pool area better than SAB and either of the two next DVC resorts. In my opinion, all the pools are very nice, and I'm glad I have the option of enjoying them as a DVC member.

you seem to be implying that the new pool hopping policy is some shrouded form of elitism, and I would have to disagree. The new policy is simply the result of logistics.

Stormalong Bay, despite being immense for a resort pool, has limited resources. Up until now it has been supporting the Beach Club, the Yacht Club, and pool hopping DVC members. After July 1st, it will be supporting BC, YC AND 200 new Villas in BCV. Not 200 additional people, 200 additional units - that's a LOT of new people that SAB will now be supporting. I think that that alone will be pushing the limits of how many people SAB can support, particularly when the weather gets hot. IMHO, that is ALL that is behind the new policy.

JonHM,
Very well said, clear and to the point. I agree.

Looks like the poll results also strongly support that the new SAB no-pool hopping policy is just a result of the limited capacity of SAB given the added demand of BCV (although the "I could care less" category may be a sleeper and pull way ahead). "Fairness" comes into play where YC, BC, and BCV guests should be able to enjoy the resources of the resort they are paying for with cash or points without having to constantly negotiate an always at capacity SAB pool. If BWV pool was becoming excessively crowded limiting the enjoyment of BWV guests, I would support the same policy at BWV.

Hay, DVC members, no need for sour grapes, make your reservations in the 7 month window at BCV and enjoy the SAB pool area, your more than welcome to use your points at the BCV facilities. Heck, I still remember all the posts trashing this new resort, lack of views, decorating, etc. and here it is almost 50% sold out before it opens. I think the key is variety. I hope to stay in many different DVC resorts (accept for OKW ;-0 ).

I think there is only one reason to buy DVC, that is to stay at DVC resorts. While the other options may interest you or another potential member, they are not very financially viable and could be changed or withdrawn at any time. Only buy DVC if you'll be happy owning without all of the other stuff, then the rest is gravy.
