Hi Everyone! We took a recent short trip to Disney and I wanted to post my restaurant reviews. I'll rate from 1 - 5, 5 being the best.
BOMA - Breakfast. This was our first time and all I can say is WOW! I can't believe we've waited this long to try it. The breakfast is a buffet, which I generally do not like but this was an exception. There are stations with fresh offerings and a cook-to-order omelette station. I loved the ham, the poy, the potatoes, everything was delicious. The special juice blend was fabulous as was the Kenya coffee. Service was TOP NOTCH. I have to say this experience was a 5!!!!
Kona Cafe - Breakfast. This is always a must for us, better yet a tradition to dine here on the morning of our first full day. I love the atmosphere and the coffee and have been obsessed with Tonga Toast for some time now. My DH and I split it because it's just too rich. I'll have to say the service was a little slow, nothing horrible though. But the Tonga Toast just wasn't the same. It was much "greasier" than usual to the point where it made me a little sick just eating 1/2. I hate to give this report because I love Kona Cafe and all that it signifies for us. It wasn't horrible, but I'll have to give it a 2.5, perhaps a 3 because the atmosphere and coffee is still the best!
Boatwrights - Breakfast. We stayed at POR so we ate here a couple of times. Delicious!!!! I had the sweet potato pancakes one morning which was so very good. DH had french toast which is what they use to call Crescent City Toast. He went bezerk! Had some eggs, the usual. Service was always perfect. Let's give it a 5!
Blue Zoo - Dinner. Okay, here we go. Up until this trip, this has been our favorite for 3 years. Unfortunately, it was lacking a bit in food quality. I can't put my finger on it exactly. My DH got the dancing fish which he has been meaning to get for years. He said it was "okay, nothing special" and for the price we expected something special. We usually get the clam flatbread which we love but this time we didn't. Wish we had. I opted for the steak which I've had in the past and this time I'll have to say it wasn't so special - just an average steak. I had to send it back once because they over-cooked it. The horseradish potato side was overcooked. Just not impressed this time. The service was on the money but a bit "stuffy" this time which I think was just our server's personality. Like a dry rag. I hate to do it but I'm giving my once favorite place a 2.5.
Raglan Road - Dinner. I have to say it again. WOW! This was our second time and I think I liked it even better this time. Not only do you get excellent food but great entertainment. We loved the band and the dancer and we ended up singing along, meeting nice people and having a great time. We split the Smokie City appetizer which is a very rich baked cod and cheese dish that is absolutely marvelous. Then, as an entree we split the Raglan Risotto which was fabulous. Pasta with cheese and topped with watercress. I'm giving another 5!!!
Beaches & Cream - Late Lunch/Early Dinner. We frequent this wonderful establishment and it was wonderful as usual. Great burgers. DH had a veggie burger. I think they could improve their fries a little, nothing special. But, we love it as usual and I'm giving it a 4...I know it's in a different league than nicer places, but for what it is it is definitely a 4. If not a 4.5. I love the fresh baked bread. It adds to the meal for sure.
Boatwrights - Dinner. We had not had dinner here for about 6 years. It was very good and reasonably priced as Disney restaurants go. I had prime rib which was excellent. I think my DH had salmon...yes salmon over pasta. The service was very good as well. I would give it a 4. This has nothing to do with the dinner, but after we ate we went over to the River Roost lounge and enjoyed Piano Man Bob Jackson! What a hoot!
Olivias - Late Lunch/Early Dinner. I have to say this might have been the worst service ever. Our server was new and we tried to be patient and we were kind but my goodness. The plates sat and sat once we were done, the whole experience was as slow as molasses. She didn't make my DH's shake correctly, it was watery. She was very apologetic the whole meal, couldn't answer questions. As a southern woman all I can say is "bless her heart." I had a pasta dish and I can't remember what DH had - oh yes I do know. Crab cakes. He said they were very good and my pasta was pretty darn good. It was a vegetarian pasta with spinach. I had the key lime tart which was excellent. If I were rating the food alone I'd give it a 3. But, given the service, I'm going to have to knock this experience down to a 2.
That's really it except a couple of counter service places which I don't typically rate. They are what they are.
questions anyone?
