Is there a shortcut? Does the construction @ DHS affect the walking path from BWI at all?

Well, if you can walk on water...
Currently, if you walk from the Epcot resorts, you walk back most of the way the same as before, but you walk around the new construction, so it's a bit longer.

Yes, the construction affects it.
It adds 3-5 min (depending on if you walk fast or slow) to the original path.
Total distance from boat dock to turnstile is .9 miles, took us 20 min.

No real shortcut but you can save a few steps if you are at the actual boarwalk and walk toward the Feature pool (warning: Clown Slide) then you can save a few steps and find the path right along the canal.

If you are at front of the hotel (Portico), you can walk along the BWV building toward the parking lot and then turn right at the end of the BWV building and find the path along the canal to HS.

The new bus loop and the Skyliner Gondola station at HS has added about 4-7 minutes to the walk as you have to go around the construction.

It is a shorter distance to walk past the clown pool (main pool) then if you stay on the path that goes in front of the BW General store and the brewery and the rest of that section of the Boardwalk.
For the record, my distance measured using the new path is going the above route, through the pool

Wow, I always thought that particular walkway terminated at the corner of the BWV building. Do you have to pass through the building to connect with the path along the canal? If so, is it a straight shot, or do you need to go down a guest hallway? (Would prefer not to do that).

My mom will be using an ecv during our December trip, and it would be great to find a route to HS that eliminates the need to take an extra elevator to the Boardwalk level.

Will your mom be staying at the BWV or BWI? With an ECV the only way to avoid taking an elevator down to the Boardwalk level would be exit at the lobby level and to use the walkway along the Portico (Front drive) and follow along the BWV building and then turn right to head toward the canal and you will run right into the walkway. Once you get to the canal / walkway, HS is a left turn.

You don't need to enter either the BWI or the BWV building's to access the walkway unless you are on the 2nd floor or above at the BWI / BWV. And if you are in the buildings most guests will want to go to the first floor (using the elevators just beyond the lobby on BWI or the BWV sides of the lobby) and head toward the Feature pool.

From the Boardwalk area head toward the village green (green area between the BWI / BWV and look for the Wyland Galleries (look for the sign) just past the gallery entry doors. There is a walkway next to the Wyland Galleries entry doors that leads to the Fitness Club and then toward the Feature pool and the walkway and the canal behind the pool. Just keep heading toward the Swan building that you can see across the canal to you hit the walkway.

Yes, the walkway is also accessible at the end of the BWV building between Dueling Pianos and Atlantic Dance. However, as discussed above you can save some steps by cutting through by the Feature pool area.

Thanks, that’s very helpful information!

We are staying at BWI. It will be Mom’s first time staying there with an ECV. I have also put in a request for a 2nd floor room in hopes of being on the lobby level and avoiding one set of elevators. Mom can navigate elevators just fine when necessary, so no problem if we don’t get it. However, every little thing that makes her trip easier is a big plus! :thumbsup2
