Came down on Feb. 11 for the Daytona 500. After the race (Feb. 15th) we headed down to Disney for one day. We were staying at Port Orleans Riverside, which is a fantastic resort. Have stayed there before and would stay there again. The plan was to get to bed early so we could be up and to Epcot by 8:30, however even the best laid plans can go awry. Here's my room:
We arrived at POR at around 10 pm and easily checked in without any wait. At that point we decided to head down to DTD for a few brewskis at Ragland Road. Ohh, that first one went down so good. Then the second one was ther before we knew it. Yummy. However, at 12:30 Ragland was closing down because now that there is no Pleasure Island their business is hurting late at night.
Well, right next door is Fuego by Sosa which is open until 1:30. Yeah, at that point we should have just went back to the resort, but no the drinking demons were kicking in. So over we went where I ordered a Fin De Monde, which is a French Canadian beer with 9% alcohol (that's huge for a beer, most have 3.0-3.5%). After 2 more of those Disney Security was there to escort us out, LOL. Actually, the security guy was pretty cool and we joked with him.
Got back to the room around 2:30 and as soon as I put my head on the pillow, the room was spinning. Going to bed would be a bad idea. So I threw on my shorts, a tee, and out the door I went with my camera and took a long walk all the way around the resort taking photos. Honestly, most were blurry, but I did get a couple good ones:
Finally, to bed at around 4am. I did see some people while walking around that were heading to the airport, that would suck.
Obviously 8 am came and went as well as us making it for Epcot opening. Finally woke up around 11 with a killer headache. Took a shower, downed 4 ibuprofen, and by boat off to DTD I went to retrieve the car we left there the night before. The boat ride was brutal as I was a bit quesy, but I made it.
DTD was packed, so I couldn't get a sandwich at Earl of Sandwich. I found Wenzels and had a pretzel dog. It was tough to get down, but I felt better after it. I was suffering, so I went back to the resort.
Laid down for about a half hour and went out to the pool where I laid in the sun for about 40 minutes listening to Illuminations on my cd player. That inspired me! I thought to myself, "Dude, you at WDW, get off your butt and get to a park".
Since it was already 3pm I decided to go to the Magic Kingdom since it was open until 11 and I wanted to see SpectroMagic. Jumped on the bus and ran into a Diser who recognized my GKTW shirt. I believe his screen name is JoeC or JoeG and he was there with his lovely family. We chatted a bit and before I knew it, I saw the Space Mountain spires looming. You can see him on the left side of this photo:
