I have been away from the cruise boards for a while, so if the question has been asked, forgive me. We did the Eastern 7 day 2 years ago and next July we are hoping to do the 7 day Western. Can any experienced western cruisers give me a heads up in the best shopping? Do they give you an on board "seminar" of suggested shopping, just like they did on the Eastern....and in your opinions, what is the specialty of each island and best prices??? Nothing like asking for a little bit of information. Thanks in advance for your information! We are so excited!

We didn't go for the shopping - ended up doing that part on our own but we were basically souveneir shopping - but they did give seminars the day before the port day. And on the July 19 cruise, the guy even did a shopping "excursion" which was free for an hour and a half in Cozumel. Lots of diamond shops and tanzanite and ruby shops and talk about. Like every store or every other store in Cozumel had some sort of jewelry they were trying to rope you in to.

Make sure and glance or read over the shopping suggestions in the navigators. They seem to be the best places to go and they have been checked out and recommended.

Also - if anyone is wanting to do tshirt shopping - in Cozumel the shirts seem to be a size smaller than they are listed. I am a larger woman and found a shop with my sizes and it ended up being a size lower. So if it says it's an XL, plan on it maybe being an L. If it's a 2XL, it's probably and XL. If you can try them on - you might want to.

I would only buy jewelry at DCL approved shops. My father didn't and he got taken on a purchase. He was told he was buying tanzanite only to get it home and have it appraised - SURPRISE - not tanzanite, fake. Buyer beware. Also, use a credit card so you have some protection (he didn't)...

We were on the western in March and before each port there was a shopping seminar -

We were provided a map with the DCL "approved" stores listed and the specialities. There was a CM on board whose only responsibilities was to provide shopping information. The shopping seminars were run on the tv in the staterooms if you missed the live session as well as the 'guide" was usually around the excursion desk and available for individual questions and guidence.

Happy shopping

You can also watch the 'shopping seminar' on TV if you can't fit it in your schedule to do in person.
