We are flying out of Detroit next week, and I am hoping to be able to do some back to school shopping the day before. We are staying near the airport, can anyone recommend a good mall in the area, and if a Target and WalMart are near by that would be a bonus?

Also any recommendations of good stores to buy girls clothes (6 and 7)?

TIA.

I am not sure about a mall but I know there is a Target and a Meijer. I can't remember the exit. I do know that if you are on your way to the airport it is the exit that has a big Ford sign just before it. If you get the zip code of your hotel you can go to Target's website and find the closet one or do a search for ones in Detroit Mi.

I'm bad with exit numbers but Fairlane Mall is very close in Dearborn, and there is a huge plaza with Target, Meijers, Payless, Old Navy etc. right off 94 and I think it's called Fairlane Green. I go over a lot and it's about 10 minutes from the bridge.

You should be able to get some great deals! Last weekend I was in the States, and at Walmart I got some 24 packs of crayola crayons for .22, and crayola 10 packs of markers for .88 !!! Boy was I happy! :cool1:

A little O/T, but incase you don't hear about it, there was a bomb threat in Sarnia today. I am a little worried this may cause an increase in border security over the next little while.

Can't help on the shopping as I have only ever shopped in Birch Run.
Are you planning on taking all your school supplies with you to DisneyWorld then? I was thinking of getting some stuff at the Outlet Malls on I-Drive.

Thanks for the replies, the plan is to leave the stuff in the car, but knowing my girls anything new they will want to take with them.

What is the best border to cross at? I was thinking of Sarnia as we are coming from up on Lake Huron. Hopefully the border crossing will not be too bad. Last week I was crossing at Fort Erie and the border guard wanted to check the trunk and then he almost lost my keys.

If you are coming from down 21, definitely take Sarnia. You are on I 94 from Port Huron to Metro airport. Take Telegraph Rd South from 94 until Eureka Rd. Left on Eureka and you will run into Meijers, Target, Southland Mall, Kohls etc....

When you are done, go back up Eureka the way you came and it takes you right to the airport.

If you are going through Port Huron stop at Birchwood mall in Port Huron. It has a target, JCPenny and other stores. Also if you keep driving past the mall there is a Meijer and Walmart on the left. I am in Port Huron almost once a month. I was just there on Sat.

Also Last year did a bunch of shopping at Target and left it in the car for the week.

Walmart also has for size 5T and under MickeyMouse clubhouse clothing.

We always shop at Fairlane Town Center in Dearborn the night before our flights out of Detroit. It is one of Michigan's largest with more than 155 stores. Last year they told us to go to Guest services since we were from out of town and they gave us a booklet with some great coupons.

Yep, I like Fairlane Town Center and there is a shopping center near there with target and Meijer, some shoes stores, Marshall's, etc. Fairlane Town center has lots of good stores-Macy's, Sears, Gymboree, etc. I'm not sure what exit it is but it's right off 94, near the giant tire and the pink Best Western (you can't miss either of those landmarks). There is a Walmart in Canton close to the airport. You want to exit for Ikea but turn right instead of left and it's just down a few minutes on your left hand side. I think the Target at Dearborn is nicer.

Have people hit good deals at Birchwood Mall in Port Huron? We're going to Great Lakes Crossing just before Labour Day weekend but might have time to hit this one on the way home....

It all depends on what you are looking for. I really like the target target there and I find JCPenny has good deals.
