I do not want to be fighting fleas this summer. I'm trying to campare Frontline Plus and K9 Advantix for our two laborador retrievers. The ingredients are different in the two products and they are similarly priced.
Do you have a preference?

K9 Advantix
It is used for the topical prevention and treatment of fleas, mosquitoes and ticks including deer ticks (the major carrier of Lyme disease), American dog ticks, Brown dog ticks and lone star ticks. K-9 Advantix kills and repels fleas, ticks and mosquitoes.

Frontline plus
It is effective against all stages of the brown dog tick, the American dog tick, lone star tick and deer ticks (the major carrier of Lyme disease). Frontline Plus also kills flea eggs and flea larvae as well as chewing lice.

DH is a veterinarian so I just asked his opinion. He said both are very effective at what they claim to do so it's a matter of personal preference. He chooses to carry Frontline because it is safe for cats (if you have cats in your house). Advantix is usually fatal if you use it on a cat by mistake. But that's his only reason for one over the other.

He also mentioned that you may still see little critters (fleas, ticks, etc.) on your pets, but they will be in the process of dying, so don't panic and think that the medicine isn't working.

Hope that helps! BTW we use Frontline on our pets and live in a very rural area and it works very well.

Thanks for asking the expert Bearvet! :goodvibes I think I may go with the K9 Advantix, as I can buy a 4pk rather than a 3pk and can treat each dog twice from one package.

We use the Frontline Plus on our dog; everything else we tried made her sick. She has a delicate constitution though, she's a retired Greyhound, and their body chemistry doesn't handle any meds well, including the topical stuff.

The Frontline works great, and it's easy on her system.

I am another Frontline user. It works really well. I bathe my dog once a week, and frontline keeps on working. Best product I have found so far, and I have used seveal.

Anyone have allergy issues with these? My dog freaks out when we try to put them on. Jumping around and yipping, like it hurts him. I've thrown him in the tub after each application to try and quickly wash it off. :guilty:

The carrier of some of these products contain alcohol so it can have a burning sensation upon applying.

Both are great products.

We use Bio-Spot on my 2 dogs. Cheaper than anything from the vet and I have found it to be just as effective.

I use Frontline Plus for Toby - I think I purchased it through PetMeds.com, but I'm not sure.

Another frontline plus user. We use it on our great dane and min. poodle. Have also tried advantage and the otc stuff at walmart. Nothing has worked like frontline. We buy either from petmeds or our rural king. Whichever is cheaper when it is time to buy. Frontline works the whole month also. Our dogs have not had any fleas or ticks through the summer months at all. We put it on them April through Sept.

Both are great products. I wouldn't hesitate to use either.

We use K9 Advantix. Why?

- we don't have cats. I wouldn't use it if we did.
- it protects against mosquitos which are major problems here; Frontline does not
- it REPELS fleas, ticks, mosquitos. Frontline doesn't - it only kills once they are on.

Either one will be good.

we use frontline........our vet lets us buy the BIG tubes and gives us a syringe to measure out how much to use on each animal..So everymonth we only use 2 tubes instead of 5. We also treat our yard with a spray that works very well....now if the neighbors would treat their yards it would be so much better.
