We have a Friday afternoon flight and will stay at the MCO Hyatt.
Saturday morning we'll be taking a limo to the Magic..

Is there any shopping at MCO for beer, wine, soda, water, snacks and last minute stuff?

Or should I just request a a shopping stop when I reserve the limo? If so where is a good place to stop?

OR is it easier to pick up stuff the next day at Key West?

Thanks
Sue

You can get these things at the airport, but I'd request a stop at a grocery store instead. The drivers know where the stores are, and it will be a lot cheaper than buying them at the airport.
I don't know about Key West, but I'd rather get it at a store before and get it over and done with.

There are many shops in the Orlando Intenational Airport Terminal. See http://www.orlandoairports.net:/goaa/property/shops.htm (but ignore the shops in the airsides because they're only available to ticketed airline passengers).

I don't know if any of the shops sell beer and wine. I would recommend calling the MCO Hyatt.

When I asked asked Tiffany Towncar about a grocery stop between MCO and the port, I was told they only stop at 7-11. They explained that there are no real grocery stores between MCO and the port.

We just returned from the 1/24 Magic and rented a car which we drove to the port. We originally had a town car service scheduled but wanted more flexibility with a car. Hyatt took care of getting our luggage on the DCL bus and we were free to drive down to the port which was very easy and took 45-55 minutes. An additional bonus was that our rental was $25 including all taxes and fees. DCL transportation would have been $200 for 4 of us and the town car was around $90. There is a huge Publix grocey store a couple of exits before the terminals/car return place. They sold wine and beer but no liquor. There were other shops in the strip mall surrounding Publix but not sure if there was a liquor store. I'd check with your car service and let them know specifically what you are needing to buy.

There is no place in the MCO terminal to buy beer and/or wine prior to the cruise (believe me, I looked). There are a limited selection of snacks at the newstand. Your best bet is to ask the limo driver to stop at a grocery store.

According to Dave's website, there's a Publix market right off rte. 528. Take the first exit after you cross I-95, about 10 miles from the port. The store is right at the bottom of the ramp.

Minniesota, I was VERY surprised to find that Hyatt is willing to take your luggage to the DCL bus without any fees. Could I request them to do it for me too?

Little Twin Stars,
When we checked in, I told the clerk that we were going on the Disney cruise and he handed me a letter that detailed the morning procedure. It said something like Hyatt has arranged with DCL to transport your luggage - place your DCL tags on your bags and have them in the hallway by 8 a.m. Saturday. We were happy to not have to drag our 5 bags all the way down to the car rental counter and then out to the lot. It worked great and all our bags were delivered to our staterooms by the time we arrived!

This is fantastic! Thanks for the heads up!:)

Great tips!

I'll request the limo stop at the store and check out the DCL luggage transfer at the Hyatt...that sounds great!

Thanks everyone!!!l

Sorry, but the luggage delivery to the ship from the Hyatt is only for guests that purchase transfers from DCL.

Boy, I was not given that impression at all. When I told the desk clerk we were going on the Disney cruise, he handed me a letter that detailed everything. He never mentioned I needed transfers. In fact, I asked him how far to the Budget desk since we were getting our car in the morning. We put our yellow Disney luggage tags on and put them in the hallway as instructed in the letter. Our bags were picked up and delivered to our stateroom. The letter implied that this is a service Hyatt provides for its Disney guests - there was no charge.

I had the same problem with Tiffany Towncar. They insisted they could only stop at the 7-11 near MCO. There is a Winn-Dixie, and a Publix just off of 528/Beeline (you can see it from the highway). After you pass I-95 take the next exit (45). The "real" grocery stores will be right there.

plutospup,

When you wrote, "they insisted," does "they" refer to the Tiffany Towncar reservationist or to the Tiffany Towncar driver?

If Tiffany Towncar really won't stop at a real grocery store (even though there is one on the way to the port) -- but another towncar service will -- then I'll go with another company.

The person who took the reservation said she "thought" the only place was a 7/11. The driver insisted that the only place between MCO and the Radisson was the 7/11.

Has anyone who has recentlly stayed at the Hyatt before cruise checked thier gift shop? I know a lot of times they will have a small selection in there. We were hoping to buy at the airport as we are planning on doing DCL bus.

I don't remember seeing a gift shop in the Hyatt. I really wasn't looking for one but maybe they don't have one since there are so many other shops in the airport. Does anyone know for sure??

In Nov 2002 our Tiffany driver also insisted that he could only stop at a convenience store. He did reluctantly stop at the ABC liquor store, too. I was a bit miffed to later discover there were several grocery store possiblities. I wonder why they won't go there?

That was a great map link showing the shops at the airport. It listed a theater that was suppose to open in 2003, is this true? Is there a movie theater at the airport? That would be great to be able to go to a movie that evening (give us something to do anyway).

This will be our first stay at the Hyatt; I'm looking forward to it!

I can only assume that the limo drivers assume you'll spend 10 minutes in a convenience store versus 30 minutes in a large grocery store. Multiply that difference of time by several trips a day, and it may reduce the number of parties you can haul by one. I don't object to their setting a policy based on the economics. But I <b><i>do</i></b> object to their telling a known lie.
