Shopping and currency in Nassau

Could anyone tell me if US currency is accepted at port in Nassau?
Also, does anyone have any shops or neat souvenirs they recommend?

Everywhere we have been takes US dollars. There are a bunch of souvenir shops right around the port (short walking distance). The straw market is the largest collection of vendors, a few blocks from the pier. Just be ready for some pushy selling in the straw market. Shops aren't quite as bad.

Also, the Bahamian Dollar equals one US Dollar.

Everywhere will take US dollars, however you may receive Bahamian currency as small change.
