Has anyone else here gotten a packet from the Shoppers Hotline IRI group?

It apparently is a program where you join and they give you a scankey to scan your purchases (the barcodes?) that you buy at the supermarket on a weekly basis and in return and you then upload them to their website. In return, you are given gift certificates/coupons, prizes, etc.

In the brochure it says that this program is "Used by companies from around the world to improve existing products, develop new ones, or keep current products on the shelves".

Has anyone participated in something like this? Is it a hassle to scan your groceries and is it even worth it? I'm leaning towards not doing this only because it sounds like a lot of work, but if someone here does it and gets a lot of perks I may reconsider.

Thanks!

I know that many supermarkets and other stores that have card programs(CVS/ShopandSave etc) sell their lists to companies. Those lists do not contain personal information like your name, but they do contain your age, and all your purchases-from which they can usually determine your income level and family size. These stats are responsible for driving new products, re-packaging and tracking sales and marketing strageties(coupons/instore/print and air) It sounds like this is something similar, but targeted to a specific slice of the market.

I've received the offer before but never done it. It seems like way to much work for me.
